Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

Did anyone else manage to pick up a pair of Nike's AlphaFly Next%?

I was so impressed with the VaoprFly I couldn't resist a pair of these, they were delivered this morning. Looking forward to trying them out and seeing how they compare!

Well somewhat not surprisingly, my 10 mile event was cancelled for September so I'll just keep plodding on with my weekly 5k runs to keep up the fitness.

Where did all this rain come from! It isn't helping me on my way to being an 8 stone weakling who can run away from his foes rather than a 17 stone weakling who can escape his foes by making the ground shake so they lose their footing :D:D

The thunder/lightning last night was as bad as i think i've ever seen in this country. The air was so close it was fairly tough running before hand.

It's pretty bright outside now though, my left ankle feels a little niggly. Trying to decide whether to go run. Next week i need to do a 10k every day for 2 weeks and i've not really had that level of consistency in recent months. So not sure whether to keep trying to do short runs every day this week or have extra rest!

I was caught on my ride home in that. Quite enjoyed it in a weird way, and once you're socking wet, you can't get any wetter!

Ran to work for the first time today, just over 14 miles. Not sure if my foot will be able to run back, I have a slight pain on the top, near the largest tendon. Might have to ring the other half to ask her to pick me up

Yeah i planned to do that when i was thinking of changing jobs to something more local. Not sure i'd want to run 2x 14mile loops in a day!

Trouble is that it can be too close then. My place is 1 Mile from home and there are no facilities for washing there. I suppose i could use the tiny vanity sinks, but it would be tricky!

Yeah, when i say closer, this worked out at 6 miles away, as opposed to the 24 miles away i currently work!

Went out at dinner, it was really close and humid. Not pleasant for running in.

I wouldn't be 100% happy with a 24 mile commute each way. Last time I did something like that it was a 40 min drive at 7:55am and a 60 min drive 7:55:02 :D

1 year of that was enough for me and we moved house. Now I just need a better paying job, as the kids get expensive!

Yeah, it's around 40 mins for me. It's bearable but definitely a factor in considering a move. Problem is that the job itself is fairly easy and relaxed and working in finance, there's often the expectation of overtime and i don't have any of that currently!

Hoping the current situation works to push for a few WFH days/week.

I think it has proved that we can work from home, but my boss is the type to want everyone in the office. Not sure if he will be easily convinced.

My work's about 10miles away and I ran in quite a few times, even taking longer meandering routes to get more miles in. Never did do a back to back, but I think it'd be doable if I make sure I eat well and stretch out enough during the day.

Got to say though, as things get back to "normal" I'll probably maintain 2-3 days a week WFH. I feel more productive and the work/life balance that's been so bad for about 5 years is getting back in check.

I hope the current situation has taught those (typically) older minds that "oh, people can get their work done unsupervised" that maybe they can trust their staff to WFH. Sure, it's not always true but if you're any good as a manager you deal with them and don't take it out on everyone else.

Out running yesterday best run in a while felt good unfortunately Garmin connect app seems to be not working properly on my phone so havnt uploaded to Strava in a while.

I got caught out in the really bad rain/ thunder and lightning I got drenched run past cyclists hiding in bus shelters :D I love the rain when running there something about running in the rain that makes me feel more powerful.

I did manage to run back in the end!
Might have paid the price though as picked up a niggle in my foot. The top of my right foot is very sore, not sure my laces were done too tight. Hoping not, as I've run half marathon distances in the trainers I used yesterday without issue. Hopefully it'll be fine after a bit of a rest.

So much for a tapering week ready for the Lakesman in lockdown on Sunday.

I do not mind if it starts raining whilst i am running, if its raining as i step out the back door, forget it :)

Same here. I was up and nearly ready to go at 5:45 this morning. Checked outside and realised that my trunks and goggles weren't accessible without waking people!
