Makes sense thank you, I like the idea of going for it on hills and recovering downhill. I'll always try and get a hill in on a run, nowhere near your standards mind! I'm still surprised how fast my heart rate recovers after a hill, I guess that is showing fitness levels are increasing?
I'm similar, in that i'm surprised at recovery. What i've found more about my fitness recently is that i can keep going after 20 miles. Not easily, but i remember when i did the Manchester marathon and i'm sure i was walking from mile 15 onwards!
Awful run for me this morning. Unsure of the real reason as i ran yesterday and felt great. I think it's probably one/a combination of
1 - Boozing on Saturday night and i'm old now
2 - As per the above, i didn't eat much Sunday. Full english for brunch, but then nothing until a stir fry for tea
3 - Along with running yesterday, i also didn't seem to eat much. I snacked throughout the day, but MFP suggests i still only had ~2000kcal and burnt around 600 of them running.
4 - I needed to run before work. This is rare for me, so my body just isn't used to it anymore to just wake up, get dressed and be out the door within 5 minutes.
I set off feeling weak and ropey, but usually after a mile or so i get into a rhythm and get on with it. However today i seemed to be taking walking breaks during every mile, and generally just lacking any energy. At mile 4 i was cursing my route choice and at mile 5 i realised i needed to stop walking so much or i'd be home late for work! Switched from a podcast to some music for the last 3 miles which seemed to help and i just about managed to run the rest of the way home. Think at one point my HR was around 168 at a slow jog pace!
Goal for today is to eat a lot
