Glad I went to a proper running shop and did the gait analysis thing. Turns out I had a lot of over-pronation and have some shoes which correct it nicely (Brooks Trance). Can't wait to get out and try these now![]()
I'm hoping too. I did it for the first time last year and got a 2hr 1min so hoping to improve upon that. I'm also doing the Great Manchester Run and hoping to do the Great North 10k too.
Went for my first proper run in 7 weeks. I did 1.5 miles last Tuesday but I felt a small bit of pain in my knee which kinda disheartened me so I didnt run again
Through sheer frustration I ordered a Mueller Max Knee Strap and went for a 3 miler today... Not even the slightest bit of pain occured \\o o// \o/![]()
(I think I can link to that item on Amazon as OcUK don't sell it... If not then can the mods remove the link but leave the item name)
Its amazing what a couple of foamy tubes and some lycra can do. I dont propose to rely on this item forever but I will use it as a small "crutch" while my knee gets stronger. It basically helps my patella tracking (which was the main cause of my niggly pain) and gives support to the ligaments around the knee.
Lost a good 2 minutes off my 3 mile time though due to fitness level decreasing and me putting on some weight over Christmas... Shouldn't be long till I am back where I was though

I can't tell you how happy (and strange) it feels to be back running. Happy as I missed it and strange because, if you had said to me 6 months ago I would look forward to running and miss it if I stopped, I would have laughed at you![]()
I shall see you in May then for the Manchester run, or probably not due to the number of runners!
I think I had a slight 'runners knee' when ramping up distances but this went away with proper stretching and exercises, all of which are on-line and may help you get out of the brace quicker.

Ah cool, what target time did you put when you entered? (in case we are in the same start group)

It is rather steep! But then it's the biggest 10k in the UK and local to me. Over 30,000 runners as well as the elites that run and the 150M sprints make it just a great event to be involved in (imo).
I have seen Ewan Thomas, Usain Bolt and Haile Gebrselassie amongst others both whilst running, in the build up and after the event which is cool.
