if you new to these kind of games will take a while.best thing id suggest is just drop in hot places like school flats and dont worry about dying.its the quickest way you will learn about which weapon suits you.everyone is different.also play styles vary no one is right.some wave right some get to the middle early.there is no wrong way just different opinions.
one little tip id give you is x4 scope is easier than a x8 for range shots most of the time unless really long shots.on a kar its just point at head shoot.this is all changing though with the test build.so if you can start playing the test build now and you will be ready for when it goes live. to install test build look in steam under pubg and it will say test server. seems stupid but many ask how to install it.

Pretty sure you have a decent background in Day Z mod etc Goon. Would you want that to be like fortnite? PubG creator has his roots in the Arma modding scene, so it's no surprise the game play is supposed to be a slower, tactical, thought-out experience.

glad you enjoying fortnite. i cant stand it personally all it is is rocket launcher or grenade launcher and shotgun . also mainly made for kids. with your back ground and this being a arma based mod which you played like me from the start im surprised you dont like this more. desert map isnt that bad if you learn where is the good spots to loot and get a sniper and a decent scope. the new patch soon will give you the chance to pick whatever map you want.so that wont matter soon.also the new smaller map is amazing. fortnite will lose a lot of players and streamer when that hits cause its all out fun and action.
