Playing F.E.A.R for the 1st time and in glorious 3440x1440p!

fear was corridor after corridor, didnt rate it much - very repetative. Condemned was better, running around in the dark with nothing but a lead pipe or a shovel to bash the bad guys with. great fun, far more tense.
I might check check out that condemned then :D

I remember playing this game for a bit and must say the AI is one of the most sophisticated ones I have ever came across in games, I have died thousands of time but somehow never ended up finishing the game.

Tho I remember back in the day rocking this game at Intel Celeron D, 2 GB DDR2 Ram and ATI Radeon X550 256MB :D

No mods guys though something odd is going on. I went to test the settings - selected maximum for 'computer' and graphics which defaulted the resolution to 1024x768. Got an average of 125 FPS. Changed nothing and ran the test again and got and average of 43 FPS!? Ran the test another 6 times - this time at 3440x1440 resolution with various shadows, lighting, etc. settings on and off and got the exact same results each time. It's as if something is restricting it. The fact that the first test produced shows my set up is capable of 125 as you would expect from an i7 and Fury X. There is a post on the steam forums regarding some keyboards causing issues (link below) although I haven't tried the fix yet- maybe I will later.

Not a big deal as the game plays really fast and smooth just a curious one...

Edit: Ok so I just shut it down and re-launched the game - when you go into performance for the first time after launching it says 'detecting system performance' - ran the benchmark, got 163 FPS average. Ran it again immediately afterward - 118 FPS. Ran it again - 53 FPS. Ran it again - back down to 43 FPS. Just closed it and down and repeated these actions - same pattern (173 FPS, 124, 73, 43) !! ???

Just tried playing the actual game there - starts and stays at the high frames for the first couple of minutes before dropping down to the 40's. So weird. To be honest though, in terms of smoothness and/or feel of the game I really can't detect the difference when the frames drop to 43 (and never have been able to detect any difference once the FPS in any game is close to 40 and above in any game for that matter - or we all really just obsessed with numbers or are my eyes just not tuned in to that yet!?), if anything it's a better experience in the 40's as the screen tearing is quite bad when it's around 150 FPS...

oh i was playing through that a few months ago, doesn't look too shabby once you get used to the visuals and it is always fun doing the flying kicks in slo mo in some guys face :D

awesome game :)

What!? You can do flying kicks? I've been playing for 12 hours and I didn't know. What's the controls for that?

jump and something possibly fire while running straight towards some guy at point blank range, you jump and press another button not sure what button, you boot them in the face works in slo mo and out of slo mo, you have to be running to do it i think.

what arcboss just said and i think the default is mouse 2 for melee so run close to some one and jump and press mouse 2 at near point blank range, it is highly satisfying :)

lmfao, I played longer then you and didn't knew this either.

it is why fear 2 sucks they removed the awesome melee impact feeling from doing it lol

the sound is awesome plus it can turn a dodgy situation into a win one :D

argghhh outta bulletts nooooo oh wait im close to the guy just run up and fly kick him in the face :p

edit: i saved my save point when building new comp etc gonna have to restore it and actually finish this game lol

was actually on a government funded job center course when i bought this game, the guy said go out and look busy incase my boss walks in.... and told us all to go out and play football or some crap and when we came back we were supposed to be job seeking if any one asked....... and another one was look busy incase my boss walks in or ill sanction you.....

a4e incase any one is wondering.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PeoplePlus training involves looking busy incase a boss walks in.....

i went straight to game and bought commandos 3 and fear, met half the class there playing the new ps3 demo's lol

FEAR Online was a hoot to play too, dropkicking and slide tackling people to death then nailing people to walls in slow motion never gets old.

it's still being played

you can run, jump over a table and kick a Replica in the head before you land, he'll fly about 10ft through the air, FEAR was brilliant for Melee, but not in FEAR 2 because Beckett runs much slower...this killed the fun completely

there is a DLC where you play as a Replica, that was great fun, they should have made that into a full blown game.

One of my favourites. Shame the sequels were pretty poor ... well in comparison I guess :D. Usually I'd frown upon a "linear corridor shooter", but that's what made this game great imo. The "AI" appears to be so good only 'cause the levels are so tightly designed that they could essentially predict each potential outcome and script enemy reactions around them (there's been detailed write-ups about the game's systems that I recommend looking into, if you're interested...) Gameplay feels so visceral; shooting grenades mid-air, slow-mo, and drop kicks galore. And it still holds up fantastically well till this day, which this thread is evidence of :D

Yeah, FEAR is great.

I get bored quickly with most FPS games, but FEAR broke up the shooting (which was good shooting, it must be said - especially with the shotgun) with regular enough creepy stuff to keep me interested.

I played the first expansion - more of the same, but a bit less scary overall. Still had its moments, though (that Holiday bit .... I was ******** myself whilst shooting wildly all over the place :D)

What version are you running heartburnron? Im running 1.08 and have no problems with fps.

Multiplayer it just shows 'error' when searching for servers

Really fun and tense game (though the end dragged a little). I loved the multiplayer for all the reasons above. I used to be pretty good at it too so when I tried it again a few years ago I quickly got frustrated by how much I suck at it these days :p
