PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

I've pre-ordered the pro and was gonna get a TV this year to go with it but now I'm going to wait until next years offerings pop up around march time and get one. They will be slightly better for the same price I assume.

It'll be nice to be able to run the latest games (that are pro enabled or patched) with a stable frame rate. Down scaling the res will be a nice feature aswell.

Think I'll get FF15, Dishonoured 2, maybe watchdogs 2 and whatever else is around next month. Can't wait to see what Rockstar do with Red Dead too.

^ Good list of games there. For me it's the exclusives (hoping for 4K):
- Uncharted 4
- Horizon ZD
- Days Gone
- GoW4

I'll play a few others I never finished before selling my PS4; TLOU, infamous, Until Dawn etc.

I don't know how much I buy about the more expensive TVs being calibrated better. I think it's just a higher end model with more bells n whistles.

Actually you just need to read a few tv reviews on AVForums to see how bad majority of TV's are out of the box to appreciate how much a decent calibration can improve the picture quality and accuracy

(probably more than HDR ever will)

It will also be about the added bells and whistles (especially in regards to different versions / levels of HDR) but the correct calibration is vital

**to explain the last comment - HDR will only be evident now and then on some scenes, picture quality etc will be evident 100% of the time**

I get that but I don't believe shops purposely calibrate expensive TVs specifically over the cheaper models.

I have it in mind that the Manufacturer either ships pre-calibrated display models or its an agreement between the manufacturer and retailer if they want proper calibration. (i.e. you cannot sell our TVs unless you agree to do X).

Surely it is in the retailers interest to calibrate all TVs because every sale is £££ for them.

Speaking to a few mates that worked in retail back in the day, the effort was only put into the expensive sets, making sure they were calibrated, had the best feed and prominence in stores. This gave them a bigger margin than the more budget ones but also gave the illusion of a clear reason to buy the pricy one. These sets were obviously better but sometimes you want it to be more obvious to the buyers.

Take that with a pinch of salt, other places may have been different

It would be better to have a separate TV thread because it will also apply to Scorpio people who may not come in to this PS4 topic.

I have a PS4 and Panny DX902, is it worthwhile me jumping on a pro or wait for the next xbox? The only thing I'm lookin forward to is Days gone, though I could buy WD2 on it I suppose instead of my PC

Also whats HDR10 and do I have it?

If you have the DX902 then yes it has HDR10. Currently there is HDR10 and Dolby Vision. There are no players or disc's on the market with Dolby vision and it's an LG thing at the moment. It's the format in which HDR is set.

I have orderd the PS4 Pro and will sell my PS4 or pass it to a family member. It's all down to choice, HDR in my opinion is the biggest improvement since SD to HD. As for getting it or waiting on the Xbox comes down to two things:

1. Xbox specs are not confirmed nor has anyone seen or used it.
2. Games - Do you prefer the exclusives on PS or Xbox, for me that is a no brianer PS all day long plus 99% of xbox games come out on PC anyway

Yes you have it. It is the most supported HDR standard (I think)

I think you would get quite a bit of benefit from the Pro, I'm getting one and I don't have HDR. Depends if you can justify it to yourself, already having a PS4.

All depends really if new releases are going to make use of the Pro, will the below make use of it? If not I don't see the point in buying one to game at 900p when I can use my PC, it's mainly the reason my PS4 has collected dust, I do enjoy sitting back in front of my TV from time to time to game though.

Days gone
WD2
Red Dead 2
Gears of war 4
RE7

All new games released from this point on (apart from Gears of War 4 but I think you mean God of War 4) should be making use of it but Sony is tip-toeing round the devs "asking" them to support it.

Good lucky playing Gears of War 4 on PS...... It's PC and Xbox only! All of the other games you have mentioned other than Red Dead 2 have been confirmed with getting Pro upgrages.

My bad just been in the gears of war thread, meant god, surely red dead 2 will come with upgrades with it being so far away. Think I'm gonna pre-order one **** it.
What are ps4's going for can I get £130>? Leave me with £200 to pay out.

Game doing a deal for PS4 + 5 games for £175 (maybe get 5 crappy games from your mates that they no longer need).
I saw this coming so I traded my PS4 and 1 game for £200 about 6 months back. Do the same for Scorpio this time next year.

you slightly missed the point.

Retailers generall display all tv's with out of the box settings, but some manufacturers have less than ideal settings out of the box so arent being displayed to their best.

This is also changable between different ranges from the same manufacturer (and to a lesser extent one box/tv to another in the same range).

Obviously some premium retailers / premium locations may calibrate individually also but generally this isnt the case

.

Slightly misleading as HDR10 is on few discs at the moment , majority of UHD discs are neither HDR10 or DV -while still including HDR

(just shows how confusing the whole hdr situation is right now)
