PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

The general opinion is that it will upgrade the PS4 to output 4k movies and better support PSVR. If you're not interested in either of those things then the upgrade will be pointless.

If that's what this is then I will wait for a PS5 in 4 or 5 years.

Though we don't know anything for sure until Sony actually make an announcement.

I will buy 4K when you can get a 4K OLED that's minimum 60" for less than £1K.

until then 1080p will suffice.
Will we also have to hear about your purchase for the next few years too?

OP: 'I need GF advice'
PS reply: 'I bought a 50" PANASONIC Plasma cheap which has such good picture quality I can see it through my expensive mattress even from a few feet away. IMAX is **** compared'

u jelly bro?

I just bought a 55" flagship sony the other week FYI

Man I wish Sony/Panasonic sold those TV to the general populace, so we could get one, in places I would like to call 'shops'

Like a cretin, Im still using a 1930s 10" TV with a large convex lens to get to 17" - the greyscales range is pretty awesome...

I had two of those "flagship" TVs myself, but unfortunately it detected I wasn't worthy of owning such a fine piece of craftsmanship so they both self-destructed. Had to buy a Korean knock-off brand instead.

Well like most people I like pirates but I just dont think I could look at such an image all the time, rather have the sans "flagship" myself - hell I could go brand new and avoid a restoration...

point being. YOU were the one who mentioned what TV I have not me.

I simply pointed out I had a new one which I wouldn't have done if YOU hadn't made the initial assumption.

But do continue.

From everything I've read it looks like it is a hardware upgrade using AMDs Polaris 11, which in my opinion is great. This gen is already starting to show its age and a refresh is needed (option for those who want it).

If it works little like this, all good by me: -

All games are backward and forward compatible between PS4 and PS4k. Games will simply scale down to PS4 levels which I imagine isn't too difficult and not exactly fracturing the market as from 1 locked hardware platform to 2 locked platforms isn't overly difficult especially when its all the same AMD tech.

Consoles are forward / backward compatible at least 1 gen, so PS4 and PS4k, the PS4k and PS5 and so on. Perhaps backwards compatibility will be longer as it wont have any affect on developing newer games (holding back due to low baseline).

PS4 owners don't really have anything to whinge about getting short changed, as there experience will not change, so games are exactly the same performance they would have through the full life of the console. The option is available for those who can to buy a premium model for better performance.

Perhaps in the VR scene the PS4 will make use of reprojection to get a native 60fps bumped to 120fps, whilst the PS4k can do 120fps natively and all other things remain equal.

Cheaper PS4 slim model on 14nm at $199-$249 range and the new PS4k replacing it at $399 and both sold along side each other.

Cant wait for e3 what ever happens!

no they aren't

ps2 could play ps1.

only some ps3's could play ps2 but they were rare and phased out and it didn't work for every game. so the majority of ps3's i'm talking 99%+ of them weren't BC.

no ps4 can play ps3 games.

Hmm still concerns me as invariably you will get developers that want to push graphical boundaries with their games so these won't work appropriately on the old PS4 (unless resolution is the only change).
I don't know, it is a good play for Sony but many consumers may lose trust in the model. I suppose it is time to test this out.

I may end up cancelling th PSVR pre-order as this may have an impact on the VR experience.

'cause I cannot be bothered to drive all that way to find a Curry's store. Take a picture? You could have done it by now.

Well it's currently in it's box in storage (moving home).

I can provide a pic of the receipt or the box next time I move said box. I don't know how that will help you in tv hunting though.

Although it would be a lot easier for you to simply read the reviews on hdtvtest and avforums as a picture doesn't tell you anything.

The quality of the camera comes into play, as does light levels, picture settings, media, used, etc all of which you have no control of.

Whereas a pro calibrator has reviewed the model below mine very highly which tells you more than any picture would.

I only turned it on to test it was okay before I put it back into the box. I checked for backlight bleed, i didn't even install the stand I just propped it up and turned it on.

I have the W809c which is a higher model than the ones in those reviews.

No, I would have liked to see the television, just working would have been fine :).

Shame you're unable to do that.
