PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Don't believe the OG PS4 offers true HDR because of HDMI 1.4. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
think it's the exact same but the problem being that a lot of media/games only pair hdr with 4k iirc so a bit limited with things that use 1080 HDR. Or that was the case when it first got the HDR update, not sure how much 1080 hdr is being used now

I'm putting my head in the sand so I don't want to buy one:D. If it was 200 quid or I didn't have a ps4 I would be buying a pro. Hard to justify it while you wife is on mat leave tho.

nah its not cause i bet when she was pregnant her mood was fab the entire 9 months :P you need it to recover from the trauma of women during pregnancy, they do become nuts!

It's far more complex than people think. It's not just pressing a button that says "use the new hardware" and adding higher res textures.

The developers could do it, but there needs to be a good value proposition for them to do so. In other words it needs to be profitable.

Depends on the engine. Frostbite is highly scalable, so it should be a case of a couple of guys tinkering with settings and testing for a while.

Obviously those guys need paying and there's new games to sell so it'll probably be viewed as a low value proposition for them.

I was hoping the Pro would get me 1080/60 - but so far it's been the only reliable way of getting 1080/30 at the games i'm playing!

Here's hoping developers get the hang of this.

I use my PS4 on a 1080p Projector, any point in upgrading to the PS4 Pro. Increased FPS in the Witcher 3 / FFXV and future games would be welcome. Not too concerned about extra visuals as both look superb on the projector anyway but extra FPS would be nice :)

Unfortunately beyond an (assumed) requirement to provide Pro enhancements, it is left to the developer to decide how they will take advantage of the extra power available to them. The majority of enhancements so far have been focused on improving visuals (supersampling / 4k / HDR etc) or solidifying the current framerate over raw FPS increases.

FFXV for example has either a "light" or "High" mode which translates to: 1080p/30 with no frame drops (light) or 1800p /30 upscaled to 4k (High). There is no "Fast" 1080p/60 option.

We may see future games have 60FPS modes on the Pro (vs 30FPS on the PS4), but I can see more developers targeting visual enhancements over FPS as it is easier to market (to the general consumer).
