PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Seems like this is picking up steam...

A verified leaker on GAF as well has said it will be the end of the year!!!

Did not see this. Time to pack it up and go PC gaming what with Xbox doing it as well.

We're done here folks.

I think this deserves a new thread.

How likely is it for Sony to double processing and GPU power within the same generation?

Sure they may give a spec boost for smooth VR gaming, but smooth mainstream 4k TV gaming? It makes no logical sense considering what it costs PC gamers to do so.

Sony will want to push sales of 4K TVs this year and next, and a console capable of playing 4K Blu-Ray is the best way of doing it.

MS has already spoken about the upgradeable Xbox, and from what I've read already a PS4.5 is far from BS.

They should be having a go at 1080p first, and then trying to keep a decent fps. Not bragging at 4k, which we all know isn't going to happen with a £200 upgrade.

4k Blu Ray and VR yes... but 4k gaming?

Some games maybe, yes. I can see a lot of indy/cartoony/stylized games being offered with a 4K option. Not AAA stuff like Battlefield or COD though, that's too much of a step for an "filler" upgrade.

As above, I think any upgrade would be more targeted towards 4K BluRay and enabling more graphical intensive games to reach the 90/120FPS threshold than would otherwise be possible.

If this was the case then I'd buy a new console. Not for 4k but just so I got 1080p/60fps games all the time.
But I can't see it happening as it would mean that some people would have a 30fps game and some a 60fps game so the latter would have an advantage.

Looks like it's going to happen then, Microsoft muttering the same thing then.

Move to a platform model with a stable development kit and differing tiers of hardware. Good move if you ask me. I'd happily pay extra for an upgraded console that can punt out PC quality visuals without all the hassle of PC gaming.

As others have said 4K streaming (dont own xbone or PS4 so maybe they do this already?), 4K bluray, and indie games makes sense - no idea how they would meet the gaming requirements for 4k@60fps - and 30 would be just nasty...

Edit - unless of course they will allow games to be designed for the PS4 hardware with a 4K render option on the new 4.5? - i.e no change in graphical fidelity or effects just the increased resolution - although imagine the messy textures!

What I would rather see is PC style configuration, if you want 30fps you can play at a prettier setting.

If you want 60fps, you can turn down the detail and have the more smoother experience.

I doubt Sony will make a console that can do 4k and 1080p 60FPS option, I reckon it'll be a console capable of upscaling to 4k, similar to how the 360 used to handle 1080p resolution etc.

I thought the whole selling point was that 'it is powered by he PS4 you have', reducing the cost of entry to £350 + camera/move.

My question is what about the people that have already bought PS4s like me?
I'm not just gonna go buy another one - especially now that I'm worried they'll do it agin. This is coming from a PC gamer as well so I'm used to upgrading.

If I need to go buy another PS4 to get the best experience I'll just go buy the Rift and cancel my PSVR preorder

It comes with an external box, which I imagine they could integrate into a future ps4 model.

Yeh but they keep saying his PU doesn't do any graphics processing, it just handles 3D audio, splits the signal for TV and PSVR and handles the social elements.
If the only change to the PS4K is integrating this PU then that is acceptable but if they go new CPU/GPU then I am sure many current owners will have an issues. Unless they offer trade in upgrade schemes fairly cheaply.

This will go the same way as Sega and Nintendos ideas of add-ons.

It'll be released, sell a few units and then they'll can it and bring out a new console. Leaving millions of useless units lying about.

Why do you think that PS VR won't work with your PS4? I can assure you it will

I agree.

In order to sell these units your going to need exclusives for it.

Most games makers are not going to want to alienate the existing user base and simply the games will be few and far between.

I highlighted if I need to buy one to get the best experience. I.e if the graphically intensive VR games need a new PS4 or work better with a new PS4.
In that case personally the Rift would be a better buy.

They all realized that next gen is last gen... feel sorry for all the mugs that paid out for a console... me included. Though i cashed out from the xbone after a couple of months and built a rig.

Seeing as "a rig" won't let me play the likes of Uncharted, £280 for a PS4 was money very-well spent.
