PlayStation Classic

The fact it's using an open source emulator makes it more likely it'll be hackable, right? https://techcrunch.com/2018/11/09/s...es-an-open-source-emulator-to-play-its-games/

Then perhaps there won't be space for other games, but you might be able to get rid of the games which come with it and put on the selection of games you want...

It's almost like Sony have said, "Look we couldn't get the licenses, we've stuck an opensource emulator on it - you lot know what to do, but we can't say anything...."

thing is AFAIK they've not left enough memory available for people to do that (no doubt some people will mod them to take an SD card or something)

Arguably the best solution with the playstation, full ps1 and ps2 compatibility and it doesn't take up much space! hopefully the slims didn't end up like my pile of 5 fat ps2's (one for every type of game disc you needed to play) and can play everything in the back catalogue

But I'd assume that the other poster spending £30 on a slim PS2 would be getting a PAL PS2 then and therefore playing PAL PS1 games too presumably.

AFAIK you can order US PS1 games on the PS3 via the playstation store and they will work even though if you try to use US disks themselves they're region locked

The only thing looking decent is the actual physical unit and the USB controllers.

Bit worrying even the NTSC versions have performance issues according to Digital Foundry's initial analysis. It's possible modding won't even salvage this thing if it turns out they've used an under powered SOC.

My pre-order arrived yesterday. However I have let the wife put it away as a christmas pressie for me.

Hopefully it will have been hacked by then.

I think its going to be simple to hack and either change the emulator to something better and/or replace the games that are on there.

I've decided not to collect mine. I might wait and see if any decent modding comes out for it, the Digital Foundry review was quite damning for me, performance worse than the original PS in a lot of cases and a poor emulator. I would like it for nostalgia reasons but not at £90 for an ornament at the minute.

Its so underpowered whats the point of even waiting for that?
At best you could get it and use the case for a retropi build that can actually run a decent emulator. Still £90 for a case is a bit much ...

Gave my mate his birthday present. He was slightly excited. Pretty much shredded the box to get it out (almost full AvE style).

It's not great. Console itself feels really cheaply built. There's some frame rate issues (not just the 50/60hz thing) and some of the emulation looks off with geometry not lining up.
Game selection is still odd... It's missing important games, but if they're going to for early games *hence no dualshock* then why Tekken 3?
Controllers however are very good. I still can't use them for long as they give me cramp, but that's exactly what the PS1 controllers did at the time for me too. So yeah, they're accurate.

I did find this interesting though. Looks like they tested a load of other games, and with many of those it would have been one hell of a thing.

Soon tell if its just a case of polishing a turd though. Going by the video reviews I've watched, the hardware is pretty underpowered.
