You can press Triangle on people in the pitwall to see what else they have posted, I checked in festival to see who was faster than me on what then went to the pitwall, checked there profile and looked to see if I could find the one they were faster than me on

Ahh thanks for that... will go have a look :)

Just so you know, generally that is a very dangerous thing to do. Bridging of the D+ and D- (green/white) lines on a USB port indicates that the port is capable of delivering more than the usual 500mA @5v to the connected device. Most devices will attempt to draw up to 2.1A @5v when the lines are bridged, damaging the USB circuitry in the process (either immediately or over time in the case of a lot of portable chargers).

Handy to know. I'll get one of the engineers to put a meter across it tomorrow to see what it's pulling.

Will devices try to pull that 2.1A regardless of what they get from mains power for example? EG, the Vita has 1.2A @ 5V written on the back, and the mains charger says 1.5A at 5v on it.

EDIT: just remember I have a multimeter. Measured amps at 0.98 and Volts at 5.12.

My cradle arrived from Ebay today and my VIP case shipped from Amazon, good times.

Thought about getting a cradle myself but can't make up my mind. My VIP case was also shipped. Finally this weekend my Vita can go outside in safety!

DBT85, Just wiped my old Vita and deactivated its disappeared from Sony site was extremly quick!

Setting up the new one now just a question since you seem to know allot about the account settings etc. Regarding my PS3 i currently only have a 320GB Slim on the site it thinks i have a total of THREE PS3 now one of them will be my old 40GB Phat which i died and the other the 60GB i sold, Will sony unactivate them? If i ring as ive heard they may try charge me and im not willing to pay if they say i do have to

It seems to be luck of the draw mate. If you get a good person on the phone they'll do them for nothing, if not then they sometimes don't do it at all.

Your best bet is to call and ask.

1- No, it should pull the rated voltage and current at its peak.

2- Thanks for checking, most USB chargers will only be rated at 500mA and the circuitry to control it often doesn't function correctly (see all Duracell USB output AA chargers for example). On the plus side, 1A is very common for the dedicated iPad branded chargers! Most modern USB 2.0 ports should be perfectly fine too if that is the max draw.

At the weekend when it's quiet at work (been off for 4 days) I'm going to do some more tests to see what it draws from a USB port and from the mains.

The portable charger I have has a rated output of 5v @ 1A so I'm wondering if the circuitry in it is restricting the flow to 1A or if the Vita is only asking for 1A.

It's a fair heft of a charger though :D

well, this thread normally is helpful and quicker than ‘reading the manual’. thank you though for the input, i found it helpful.

It was a genuine question. I haven't checked mine and I'm not near it, but the answer should be in there.

If so, it would have been far quicker than even typing your question assuming you have it nearby.

For future reference, the online user guide is in the FAQ on the first page :)

The US Blog announced yesterday that MLB12 (out on Tuesday over there) will have a discount for anyone buying both the Vita and PS3 versions at retailers.

The RRPs for the games are $60 and $40 respectively, if you buy both you'd get $20 off at the checkout. No word yet on if there will be a similar deal for digital buyers but I'd be amazed if they didn't at least match it. There was also no mention of what happens if the retailer is discounting the games from the RRP but we'll know that soon too.

I know nobody here is probably even interested in MLB but it's more a sign of the direction they might go with other games.

For reference, MLB12 is the first retail game to offer cross platform saves. You can play at home on the PS3, upload your save to the cloud (free, don't need PS+) and then download it on the Vita to carry on your season on the train or in bed or just while the wife is watching Strictly.

IS Uncharted Abyss more epic than Uncharted 2?

PS: I'm halfway through Uncharted 3, no spoilers please

More than 2? No, I've not seen anyone who put GA at the top of thier Uncharted chart. I've seen plenty that like it more than 1 and 3 though.

It's less about enormous set pieces and more smaller scenes and exploration, though there is plenty of gunplay.

What does it mean when you get the notification that say "Live Area for Super Stardust has been updated"? I have gone into the Live area and pressed the Refresh icon and nothing new appears. Is this for new Near updates or game patches?

Also, If you have Lumines, add me to your PSN list, I would like to compare scores but I guess no-one on my existing list has that game :(

rp2000

The Live Area thing I think just means for all the happenings of your friends in that game. In a live area scroll down to see what people have been upto in that game. You can comment on and like those messages.

I have Lumines, I just haven't even got around to putting it in the vita yes as Uncharted and Motorstorm have been taking up my time!

I personally think that is way to expensive. £60~ to own the same game albeit on two different consoles but still. If you own the PS3 version you should get the vita version for much less than half price.

Hmmm, be good to see how they work this out. Though I do like the whole pick up the same game and carry on business. Will be interesting to see if other manufactures are just going to port games over or create vita versions.

I think for retail copes this was the best that could ever be expected to be fair. Even with it like it is someone could buy both for $80 and sell the PS3 one for $60 and so get the Vita version for just $20. If they gave you the second game free then it would be exploited to hell.

Now for digital it's an entirely different kettle of fish since that cannot happen but I doubt that they deal will be any better just because of how strong the grip of retail is.

For me the digital option should be buy once get both for the normal PS3 price.

So where are people going to buy MLB12 from in the UK?

No idea on a UK release date yet. If you were going to import then planetaxel.com have the Vita version for £28.42 posted (depending on the exchange rate when you order)

OK so with MLB can I download it and buy it? Or do I need a physical copy?

I mean do we have an EU store which is limited compared to the US store?

MLB is probably 'the' game for me to have, so if its a case of import then im in no rush to buy the handheld as ill be waiting until mid March probably for it to arrive. However if on release day the thing is downloadable, then 'hello' Mr Sony take my wallet.

No word yet on if it's getting a UK release, did MLB11?

If it doesn't then you have two options. Get a Vita and use a US PSN account to buy the game digitally. You'll only be able to play the game on that account but it'll work on any region Vita.

Or import the cart from the US and play it on a UK PSN account again on any Vita.

Well my included sim activated yesterday I think (welcome to voda message appeared, plus bunch of drivel), and today I got spam already, about some daily reminder for whats on tonight... At 12p a text it says, and no obvious way to cancel since the vita cannot send messages... Yeah good luck with that, since I have no credit on it yet!

I'm reluctant to just enter my details in the online, as it might not think this is a vita and I won't then get a code, right? Only want the code to give to a friend.

I just registered for an account here and it sent a validation code to the Vita that you enter into that page, once you top up the Wipeout code arrived about 30 minutes later.

MLB never gets a UK release, never had for PS2 or PS3 so I doubt it for Vita. Maybe the digital thing changes it, but if that costs money for any reason then I doubt we will see it on our store.

OK so I can get a US account and buy it that way? How does that work.. im thinking address conflicts from my card to what I assume i have to register with to get a US account?

Cant believe it :(

Your best bet is buying PSN cards from somewhere. you pay, you get emailed a code which you enter into the PSN and now your wallet has credit to spend. I've never done it so I have no idea wher to get codes from. Hopefully someone can help. maybe eBay?

Loading times?
Which is faster for loading a game?
PSNETWORK Download, loading from Vita Memory card.
Or Vita Cartridge?

I am considering getting Wipeout 2048, an wanted to know which is faster, of at all?

Retails carts are faster but only marginally. Wipeout for example might take 39 seconds on the cart but 40-41 on a memory card. In my opinion it's not enough to base a purchase on.

My Thrustmaster VIP case arrived this morning. Its pretty decent

PICS! Mine has probably arrived also but I'm at work.

Does anyone know a decent place i can get a cheap 16/32GB Memory card from?

I got my 32GB from planetaxel.com. It cost me £65 posted and it took about 10 days from Canada. They DO take payment IMMEDIATELY though even if it's not in stock. They've also had trouble getting new stock since the 15th so be warned!

OK, pics and a little mini review.

The case is very rigid, my Vita feels pretty safe in it. Shacking the case with the Vita in offers no movement what's so ever. The lid snaps shut quite viciously, so be careful! The inside is felt lined and again, feels like it will stop any harm coming to my precious bit of kit.

Nice!

just imported the PDP Trigger Grips from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/PSVita-Trigge...4JVW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330691979&sr=8-1

though they go out of stock in a flash, had mine on preorder for 3 weeks before they sent it, arrived by UPS cost me £17 in all, not bad as it is a quality item

Moar pics and impressions!

Heres a couple of pictures of the SPF case:

*huge images*

Overall very very nice case. Feels completely solid the PSV sits in very snuggly and doesnt move at all when in the case. Nether to the games in the slots too.

Looks really nice, any chance you can make the images a teeensy bit smaller? maybe 800 or 1000px on their longest side??

Can I just check, does your case close fully?

I like that case but I really don't want a case with 'thrustmaster' written on it!

The greatest flight stick ever made (imo) came from them. It's a somewhat...unfortunate name though.

So people will think I'm carrying around a sex aid. Big deal!

Plus it only says Thrustmaster on the inside I think (The VIP case that is)

mehuk is my PSN if anyone wants to add

ive only got Rayman atm, but might buy that golf thing online and ill defo get MLB in somehow... maybe a car game too

I strongly suggest Motorstorm RC if you want a racing game. Wipeout 2048 is great also but for under £5 Motorstorm is fantastic, there is a demo too.

Are you going with a US account just to play MLB on or are you going to get it on a cart?

I think this is why it will drop in price. There is a whole customer base who want the console but not at this price. It might not happen quickly like the 3DS but at some point Sony are going to want to get these customers.

Absolutely and with the technology they've used being mostly off the shelf or soon to be off the shelf smartphone/tablet based the price will probably drop for them at least faster than any other device they've ever made.

The question is when will it happen? If they came out right now and said, "We can promise that there will be no price drop before December 1st 2012, and at that point we'll knock £50 off, scouts honour" would that make people stop and wait?

How much is 9 months of entertainment worth?

The fear people have is that the price drop comes really soon like it did with the 3DS. But as I've said before there are, in my opinion, many reasons why Sony won't follow that.

Even ignoring all of those reasons they see people paying £500 for a tablet and know that £250 for the technology is actually cheap by comparison, what they have to convince people of is the experience.

Nice thank you!

Where do you source images from? What size and format do they need to be?

Images can be from anywhere, and In know that PNG and JPG work, not sure on any others. Vita resolution is 960x544 so scale any images to that size.

There are some links in the very first post to some websites and the NeoGAF thread which is huge with LOADS of great submissions like Adsta's. Also some templates for you to use other's designs with your own backgrounds.

VIP Case mini review

Just got home and opened my VIP case. I have to say I'm happy with it. It feels plenty sturdy for chucking in my bag and protecting the Vita. It's not got any padding so it wouldn't be as good if I dropped it as some others might be but that's not the reason I wanted it. I carry a bag everywhere and this will keep my Vita safe and mank free.

To test the sturdiness I use the age old test of standing on it. My 16st (more like 17st ;)) frame on one flat foot on top and while it creaked a little, it was fine and didn't explode or smash into a million pieces and it certainly didn't flex out of shape enough to harm the Vita.

It's a little violent on the snap shut so mind your fingers and if it had been given the same matte finish all over It would have been a happy 5/5 from me. Since it's only on the top it's a 4/5.

So what would I be looking at? I'm in the USA, so prices are for me...

$250 device
$20 case
$99 memory card
$40 each game...

It's just too much. I can't warrant paying that out for this right now. UNLESS there's some deals to be had on nice and simple titles such as pacman CE.... Then i could see myself dipping into my pockets...

We'll I think Toys R Us are doing some buy 1 get 1 half price this weekend so that might be an idea for games. Plus you don't NEED a 32GB card, an 8GB one would be fine if you were only really buying retail games instead of digital.

I'm not sure if there are any bundles still going out there. Everywhere in the UK are doing bundles with memory cards and games but I've not kept abreast of the US deals. so cant really help you there.

Games on the Vita have a pricing structure (thus far) of anywhere between $6 and $45 I think. Motorstorm RC for example is around $6 and is great fun. Uncharted is more like the PS3 experience but is $45 I think. There are a range of games in the middle at different prices also. Wipeout/Everybodys Golf/Rayman are all cheaper than Uncharted for example.

While I'm at work tomorrow I'll see if I can find any mention of more deals on the US heavy forum I use and will get back to you.

To test the sturdiness I use the age old test of standing on it (No Vita's or Badgers were used in this test). My 16st (more like 17st ;)) frame on one flat foot on top and while it creaked a little, it was fine and didn't explode or smash into a million pieces and it certainly didn't flex out of shape enough to harm the Vita had it been in there.

It's a little violent on the snap shut so mind your fingers but because of this the lid will not open easily if you hold it upside down with the vita in. Even with me shaking it the lid didn't move so there is no fear of the Vita falling out because you took it out of your bag wrong. If it had been given the same matte finish all over it would have been a happy 5/5 from me. Since it's only on the top it's a 4/5.
