***** PlayStation Vita Official Thread *****

ok peeps looking at spending £20 on the store, what can you recommend? already have motorstorm RC

was looking at:

Modnation Racers - £11.99
Stardust Delta - £6.99

A good way to spend £21 would be PSP games:-

Wipeout Pure
Wipeout Pulse
Ridge Racer

Hi guys, I have a few questions about the Vita as a possible portable media player.

I work nights, and I sometimes have time to myself during my shift and I have been looking in to taking a media player to work with me. I used to take my laptop with me, but it is just too heavy, plus they have just disconnected the wireless network, so no surfing now either(can just use my phone anyway).

Is the Vita suitable as a media player? The features that I really need are being able to connect it to a TV, and the necessary codecs to play many types of video file.
Also, how is it with regards to storage? ...can I load up a microSD card with videos and play them?

I figure I can kill two birds with one stone here, as I was looking to get a Vita anyway for a few games, as I used to have a PSP and I need a media player as well.

Thank you.

You might be better off with a smart phone tbh mate I'm sure you can hook them up to tvs. The PS Vita has its own memory card and they cost the earth for a small amount of space.

For games on the other hand the vita would be worth buying I think it's an amazing console.

Yeah I heard the storage isn't great.

I don't have the best smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy ace 2, but you can connect it to a tv. The only issue I would then have is with the battery.

I will probably get a Vita at some point, as there are a few games I like the look of, but not that many tbh. I was going to wait for a few more games to be released/announced first, but if it could be used as a media player as I said, then that would have persuaded me to get one now anyway.

As it is though, if it is not really viable as I specified, I will try using my phone and wait for a few more games to be announced. Any hint of MGS4 being released for it would have me running to the store straight away! (and a few other remakes I would like to see as well)

i definately dont see it as something to just throw in a drawer,

if you look around you can get an amazing 2nd hand deal on them too. mine was £170 with 2 games and a 4GB card. Picked up another pair of 4GB cards for £12 yesterday too. Games you can pick up for £10-15 for gooduns with ease too. most i have paid so far is £19 for UMVC3

Got mine last week and to say i am VERY impressed is an understatement!. the sheer graphical power of the machine is incredible. and even with my freakishly large clown hands the control layout is spot on, with the dual analogs being the work of genius on a handheld

Games that have really been a WOW that I have actually played and can comment on so far are:

Uncharted Golden Abyss - Graphically it may as well be the PS3 version, controls and gameplay are top notch

Gravity Rush - Awesome cell shaded art style and a massive open world, controls take a bit of getting used to, but very rewarding once you do :)

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 - HOW did they get this to run on a portable - JUST AWESOME!

Wipeout 2048 - Only played the demo so far, but have full game coming this week, controls are superb and quite frankly the gfx are pure Pron!

Rayman Origins - Plays exactly like the 360/PS3 versions and looks just as gorgeous, I love the game so being able to play it on the bus/plane is great

Lumines Electronic Symphony - Only played the demo so far but have the full version coming for £13.45! amazingly addictive and looks pretty cool too, has some superb licensed tunes on it as well

Motorstorm RC - as a portable racer you couldnt ask for more, looks great, plays great....and it costs £4.79!!!!

Stardust Delta - Stardust on the old amiga was good....this is SUPERB! only playing the 3 minute timed demo but as soon as payday comes on Wednesday it is mine! awesome graphics, slick controls and brilliant 90's electro soundtrack from the amiga days :)....oh and its £6.79!

Hearing great things about the Metal Gear HD pack, FIFA, Modnation Racer and Everybodys Golf too, but havent had a chance to dabble yet

With Litte Big Planet, Tekken X Streetfighter, Sony All Stars, Black Ops Declassified, NFS most Wanted and DUST 514 just to name a few coming soon.....things are looking peachy to me :)

not exactly a concise reply.....but hope that helps

Ben

Anyone using an external battery pack on the Vita - I am thinking to grab one for things like mobile phone charging and so on, but want to be sure it will also charge the Vita.
Seems the Rainforest have some pretty decent looking units, around the 10,000mah capacity with dual outputs, but I have heard that the Vita can be choosy about USB charging specs.
Any experiences to share ?

it was the same with the PSP 1.. same games from PSONE and PS2 that ive already played many times before.

How about a new Wipeout, new something and less focus on rehashes and more focus on new games?

I guess thats why i still have 2 DS's and sold my PSP. I have a feeling PSP2 (vita) is just nore of the same.

Okay true MGS PEACE WALKER might be new ish but i have that on PS3 so nm.

I use the TeckNet iEP387 7000mAh Dual-Port 2.1Amp.

I get about 4 times the battery life on my Vita when using it and can charge my phone at the same time. It can also charge via micro USB which has proven to be an absolutely invaluable feature most larger packs miss out on (charge from laptops, use universal USB chargers in other countries etc).

With most chargers you need to get a USB cable that bridges the D+ and D- connections, but I just made up my own mini extender that bridged them.
