***** PlayStation Vita Official Thread *****

I bought the official one. It's nice :)

I figured it was a little expensive in comparison to others, but agree it seems nice....

I use the TeckNet iEP387 7000mAh Dual-Port 2.1Amp.

I get about 4 times the battery life on my Vita when using it and can charge my phone at the same time. It can also charge via micro USB which has proven to be an absolutely invaluable feature most larger packs miss out on (charge from laptops, use universal USB chargers in other countries etc).

With most chargers you need to get a USB cable that bridges the D+ and D- connections, but I just made up my own mini extender that bridged them.

This is one of the units I have looked at, but I don't really want to (or have the skills) be fiddling round with cables - kinda just want to buy one that works from the off....
So, can you not just chuck in the regular Vita USB cable with this ?

It will only trickle charge if you do that. You can buy the USB charge adapters fro a few quid that do the job for you.

Ah, that's the ticket - happy to spend a few £s to get the perfect setup; any pointers on where such adapters live ?

Ah, nice, so would need something like this to charge the Vita properly, but things like mobile (HTC One X) would just charge normally ?
What I don't get, however, is that these battery packs have a high-output (2A ?) charging line, which is surely sufficient for the Vita to charge from....or am I missing the point ?

Now, if there was a battery that could also charge my Transformer...... :p

It's not just the Vita. Most devices that charge at more than 0.5A (ipad's, tablets, smart phones etc) often have 2 rates of charging. A very slow [email protected] charge which often needs the system to be off to charge and a faster charging rate, typically [email protected]. This faster charging rate is activated when the data pins on the USB connection are connected to each other (bridged), which is the USB standard for "dumb chargers" (ports that provide a higher than normal amperage but no data transfer such as USB wall chargers).

That makes sense - I guess that means that the USB cable supplied with the Vita works at higher charge rate when connected to the AC Adapter, due to 'smarts' in the brick itself, which is why the same cable will not work with a battery pack ?

I think this looks like a good buy ? Along with either a hacked cable or an adapter such as the one you suggested...?

Is the vita just something to be thrown in a draw to gather dust now? :p

Now the weather has changed I find myself sitting in the garden playing my Vita most evenings. Mainly play Everybody's Golf & Pinball Arcade, both excellent :)

Never heard of the brand.

It would probably be fine but I tend to stick with what I know with batteries as the lifespan, charge and electronics all vary hugely with some high mah rated devices not providing anywhere near their stated output.

I hadn't heard of the brand either, so kept looking, which is when I came across the Anker - seems to be the answer to everything, as it will charge the Vita from one of the 2 outputs without modded cable etc., and so much more.
Have heard good things about Anker, and a longer warranty (18 months) than the rest too :)

They made dodgy SGS2 batteries which had inaccurate mah ratings.

It also doesn't charge via USB which is a complete no-go for me with these portable batteries.

I had a few quid in my psn wallet so thought id rent a movie last night and watch on vita, was abit bored so i paid for movie thinking it would stream like on the 360,nope 28minutes i had to wait for it to download the full thing. Its things like this that i never bothered using the ps3,everything seems more complicated then it needs to be,i mean i was playing some games on vita not realising there was a update to download for the game,i had to hit refresh before booting game then download update that took ages, why didn't it let me know when the update was out that i could download it.I am not trying to start a Microsoft vs Sony argument but i own a ps3 and i have never played it since release because i was so used to using Microsoft dashboard and thought it was really easy and user friendly, that's what put me off the ps3 i found it nothing but a hassle to use especially the updates that seemed to take forever. The vita just annoys me with the dashboard thing which i hate the bubbles then when you click say psn store you have to click again to load, why not just load soon as i click it.The trophy thing annoys me when you click it then it syncs,I know vita is just new and they probably will do dash updates but at the minute it puts me off playing

Folks, just a question about Wipeout 2048. I have completed all 3 seasons and have unlocked all the speed laps etc, is there a "pass/elite" status for the hot laps or are they just simply "set the fastest lap" type event? Are there any unlockables to be had from completing these?

OK, finally settled on this - it works with PS Vita (!!!) and most other USB thingys

Well, for anyone interested, the Anker 10,000mah external battery arrived yesterday, and seems a nice piece of kit. I chucked it on charge (supplied with a UK power adapter  ) and have tested it with my HOX and Vita - both report charging :D
Nice package, really, good looking unit and a small army of connectors supplied in the box - including netbook/laptop, as this little unit not only has 2x USB outputs (at up to 2.1A) but also a switchable 9/12v DC coaxial !

I'd still love to know what Sony are planning on doing with the Vita. Sales are still horrible, PS1 classics STILL aren't supported, the line up for the rest of the year is pretty horrible.

Where's Nintendo have already sold almost 200k 3DS XL's in the space of a few days in Japan alone, that's more than the Vita sells in 3 months.

Any one else been tempted to sell theres? Love the piece of kit but its getting barely any use now and all the upcoming games seem uninteresting to me atleast

It's a hard one, I have only been on mine about twice in the last few weeks. It has gone quite on the games front for the vita, i guess i am looking forward to New Little King story. it is a shame Sony are a bit slow with the vita.

More interest in the PS 3 games coming out.

I think with Nitendo, the games are already there on the 3DS. So it makes the 3DS XL a good purchase or up grade.
