***** PlayStation Vita Official Thread *****

Got my paws on a Vita, and I love it! Played a bit of FF7, and LBP so far. I haven't had a handheld since my Gameboy :D

I really regret not adding Vita games to my PS+ subscription in previous months now (never thought about doing that)!

Grats :D Make sure you get Persona 4 Golden as soon as possible! Even if you played the original on PS2, the port is just the incredible icing on the grand cake of awesome.

Fired up p4g again last night, i stopped playibg for a few weeks unsure why but its easy to come back too! Its weird though i still wonder if jm spending my free time in game correctly or if im using the right personas and stuff

Also advice needed (not really a spoiler but maybe just for those that have played 25ish hours):

i went back to a dungeon i have cleared to try and defeat its shadow or whatever and got to him but he uses and attack that wipes my team in 1 go near enough, so how do you know when the right time is to be able to tackle the 2nd run through bosses?

Also as a side question, do any of you use a grip or anything on the vita? I get pins and needles and cramps rather easily as standard! The hori grip looks ok but people say the handles dont stay in place during play?

Any advice or recommendations?

TA :)

Are you pretty much always busy in your free time? You shouldn't be ending up having time to waste very often (or at least not until you've pretty much maxed all your S.Links and Stats), and ideally you should have a spread of S.Link levels and I'm guessing you'll soon be reaching the point (if you haven't already) where they can't go any further until certain events take place.

As far as Personas go, there's no real "right" or "wrong" choice (though some do make the game stupidly easy like Izanagi-no-Okami). Generally you want to be using ones that are suited to the enemies of the dungeon/floor you're currently on (so if enemies are mainly fire based you obviously want ones that are immune or resistant to fire, and preferably ones that have ice based attacks and also make sure your team is suitable as well, meaning you may have to leave Chie behind if they are mainly using fire attacks and so on ). If there is a Persona you really like, or feel more comfortable using, you can obviously tailor them a bit more to the dungeon through fusion/cards instead of finding/fusing new Personas entirely just to use for that floor (though this may be an easy option in some cases). For instance, I once tried to see if I could make it through the entire game with Izanagi alone, so I made sure to "update" him every now and then with hard hitting spells (also switched between Almighty, Hama, and Mudo when non-elemental magic was needed), absorbs/nulls/resistances depending on what I needed. Felt awesome to have such a powerful Izanagi by the end :D was unstoppable.

I generally waited until a dungeon or two later before I went back to tackle the extra bosses, some of them are pretty challenging though so you may either need to grind more, change your Personas/team setup, upgrade your gear, just keep trying, etc. Are you making sure to upgrade the gear of all your characters too? And selling whatever you can to the Blacksmith?

Yea im pretty much always doing something i just wondered if there were things i should be doing over others during this time but ive been trying to keep it fairly balanced so sounds like this is ok!

Also should i be taking direct control of all party members? Most of the time i leave that to the a.i. maybe this is why im struggling i may try and control the whole party tonight :)

Thanks for your answer!

Sounds like you're on the right track :) a balance is good, but if you're finding it hard to keep that up then you can always focus on maxing your stats, then start a New Game+ and max the S.Links on your 2nd playthrough with the benefit of maxed stats (you will end up having a lot of spare time this way though). It's definitely doable to max all S.Links and Stats in one playthrough though, so don't sweat it too much :) sounds like you're doing alright!

It's up to personal preference I guess - personally I can't stand having the AI control my party members. I just feel really uncomfortable having their actions automated as they'll often do really stupid things, and I can take a much more strategic approach controlling them manually. It's worth trying to control them yourself, it makes it a hell of a lot easier sometimes :) sure it may take longer since you're having to select their actions individually, but I think it's worth the extra effort.

I use a grip on mine. Think it's the Hori one and it makes the Vita much more comfortable to use for extended periods.

Well worth the investment for me.

So I'm in the Killzone Mercenary closed beta... and holy crap does this game look good. Comparable to PS3 here. The resolution is also awesome, no scaling back like Uncharted.

In terms of the controls, they feel just like the console killzone (so a heavy feel), and the vita sticks work great. Ive not been able to get into too many games, but what I've played so far I'm very impressed. Will certainly pick this up.

How does it run? 30 FPS?

Thanks mate ill have a look then, especially if killzone turns out to be worth getting then i will want a more controller-esk feel! I dont take it out and about just use it at home so any added bulk isnt really an issue

It was a very solid FPS for the graphics on show. I'd say probably 30 yeh. Haven't experienced any slow down so far, though I haven't got in too many games currently. Needs more people involved! There is an open beta at the end of the month.

I really need to try this for myself :) whats the player count per match? 8v8?

The only issue i can see is that i worry the small sticks wont give me enough accuracy but cant say without playing!

Tried playing killzone 3 recwntly and the frame rate of that game makes the online unplayable for me, i used to love it but going back it just felt sluggish :( i hope this game isnt all graphics and nothing else! Your impressions are getting me hopeful ;)

I'd say the game is certainly smooth enough. I'm afraid its just 4v4 which is the biggest downer :( I wish they could have pushed it to 6v6, that would have been perfect.

Yeh, the sticks are accurate enough, but currently I'm not that skillful! I used to love KZ2 though so I know I'll improve.

So far though, it seems like this is the FPS game the Vita needed. Can't believe there hasn't been a good one until now.

EDIT: Picked up Lego Lord of the Rings and When Vikings Attack free with PS+ this month, awesome.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by Killzone last night. I was a bit skeptical about an FPS on the Vita but my God does it work well. I only managed to get into one match after about 30 minutes of waiting, but I really enjoyed what I played, and the valour system could add more to the gameplay. Looking forward to trying the Single Player when it launches!

Damn u got a key in the end then :( jealous!

So after a few hours of killzone... I can confirm that this is the MP game we've been waiting for on the vita. Great fun, great controls, looks amazing and runs great too. Bloody ideal!
