hi there

please dont judge ill try and explain as clearly as possible, dont condone my stupidity in the past but had my reasons, 2 years ago, when i was 18, my dad had been diagnosed terminally ill and i went off the rails a little and had no cash, i thought it was his last christmas, i tried to shoplift an item woth £45 and cos i was so ditzy and felt so bad, guard spotted it a mile off, i got caught, cautioned while been held somewhere in the store and left with a fine of £80 and a civil recovery £210 - (ouch)
didnt get arrested, since then ive picked up, sorted myself out, done good deeds for the community, got my a levels, doing a degree and have a studio.

im doing part time work at my college library atm, i have to have a crb check, basically what im asking is, will this show up on my record, and if so, will it affect my job as it has nothing to do with harming young people etc, i could imagine indecent exposure etc. bit worried, dont want something stupid in the past to ruin the rest of my life, im not that person anymore.

cheers.

Worst i used to....

Joking, not sure of the answer but just thought I would post to say well done for sorting yourself out.

The Home Office said:
Standard CRB Check
Standard CRB checks are for people entering certain professions, such as members of the legal and accountancy professions. Standard checks contain the following:

Convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Warnings held in England and Wales on the Police National Computer, the most of the relevant convictions in Scotland and Northern Ireland may also be included;
Standard checks no longer include a check of the old or new barred lists from 12 October 2009, therefore if you are working or volunteering with children or vulnerable adults, you may now be entitled to an Enhanced CRB check

From here : http://www.crb.homeoffice.gov.uk/glossary/glossary_of_terms_-_disclosure.aspx

Sorry man but it'll show.

Too many commas and not enough full stops.

Anyway glad you got fined so at least you wont do it again. You don't have to buy presents you could have always made one or done something for him.

You don't have a criminal record, therefore you will be fine.
You would know if you have a criminal record ;).

You did wrong, you got caught and you learnt from it. Move on:).

Actually it will.

All convictions and cautions given by the police will appear on CRB check.

However, it is not clear what sort of fine you had, it sounds like you are saying the store fined you and took a civil action against you which seems strange for shoplifting.

Any CRB involving vulnerable groups such as children will require an enhanced CRB especially if it is the local authority (being a library)

However, any employer has to consider the rehabilitation of offenders act (even those exempt, a library is not) and they must have good reason for refusing the CRB if the offenses or cautions are unrelated to those groups. I would expect that the issuing authority (the employer) will request an explanation and in my experience of dealing with hundreds of Enhanced CRBs with all sorts of stuff on them your explanation should be fine.

I was going to say that sounded harsh, but no, it actually sounds cruel.

Glad OP got himself sorted out, sorry to hear your dad died when you were so young.

It may show on a CRB, it may or may not affect future employment

As soon as I read the thread title I knew there would be people like you replying.

He knows he's done wrong, learnt from his mistake, paid the punishment and now wants to move on with his life. He doesn't need to hear 'oh glad you got fined lolol'.

Yeah lets give hugs and kisses for the OP because he learnt from his mistake.

Or you could cut the crap and not reply? He only wanted a question answering, not a bunch of up their own arse members putting him down.

Well he should have just asked the question and not gone into all that detail about it then, as well as learning to write properly, then maybe I wouldn't have jumped onto it.

pfft dont sweat it,

had to go through an enhanced disclosure for the work we do for the social work dept. (taxi driver ferrying vurnerable kids about) i've got a racial assault conviction along with a few others and they never batted an eyelid once i explained the background to it

worst case scenario you'd be asked to explain how it came about and probably be asked if your still shoplifting :)

dont sweat it

I wrote it very hastily as i was keen for an answer, i apologise.
