I have just finished building my PC & had it running now for about 2 hours & messing around in the BIOS.

I have just noticed that it is showing my CPU temp is at 87 degrees C.

Please any advice would be appreciated.

as above, is the heatsink/fan correctly installed and connect to the motherboard? did you apply thermal paste? were there any noticable dips or scratches on the CPU or HSF?

i would re-seat the CPU to make sure. see how the paste is spread when you take the HSF off.

If all of the above is fine then check to see if your cpu is not concave. This will involve taking it out and placing it against some straight lines and seeing if they reflect straight on the cpu or curved.

I have just taken off the heatsink & fan which came with the CPU.

There was already thermal paste on the bottom of the heatsink so I have just seated it on top of the cpu & pushed down the 4 connectors securing it into place so it doesn't budge.

The fan is connected to the cpu fan connector as instrucetd.

i doubt its faulty readings then. BIOS should be pretty accurate at reading temps. Like i said earlier check to see if you have a concave cpu.

I took off the heatsink & took out the cpu to make sure it was seated correctly & there are no scratches or anything else.

It doesn't loke concave. It looks fine.

I have now put the cpu back in & replaced the heatsink & fan.

However, when I now turn on the system & enter the bios within a few seconds it turns itself off.

Use intel tat just to be sure as you can get faulty bios tempature readings.

TAT doesn't work with nForce motherboards. CoreTemp does though. :)

OP: make sure you manually set the voltages in the BIOS. Leaving them on auto gives you more than you need.
