Please help with 1st build

I have had a go at attaching thse tiny front panel wires to the little adapter ready to connect to the board. There is a wire for powerLED+ and another for PowerLED- but the adapter only has PLED and SLED. The manual says that SLED is Suspend LED.

Ah wait. the adapter also has gnd. so add the PLED- to that?

if the power light doesnt work, no biggie, just swap them around, you wont damage a LED.

Same with the HDD activity LED, if it dont flash, just means you got the polarity the wrong way around.

This is wrong, your holding JFP2 connector

WAIT.

your wanting the connectors on JFP1

It has power LED + and -

Power switch + and -

HDD LED + and -

Reset switch + and -

the connector has two more pins, so is wider.

those pins that are labelled power led + and - in the manual are both called "FP PWR/SLP" on the corresponding adapter pins. Also the little diagram in the bag with the adapter shows the power LED + and - wires attached to the pins I mentioned earlier (PLED & GND).

I am too tired for this now. I think i will go to bed and leavve the pc as it is until tomorrow. Then I can take my time over these wires and get the thing powered up.

I am so scared that I have inadvertantly broken something.

Anyway. Thank you very much for once again offering so much help and putting up with my lack of knowledge.

cheers for now

Can you type out what the case wires say on them? maybe a nice photo or microsoft paint diagram of them?

so they can be matched upto the motherboard header.

Power SW
Power LED+
Power LED-
H.D.D LED
Reset SW

HD Audio
AC' 97 These 2 are attached to the same main wire

USB

Right, I'm off now but I look forward to continuing this mission tomorrow.

Cheers and good night

The HD audio goes into another header along the bottom of the motherboard near the very rear called "JAUD1" leave the AC97 dangling.

The USB go to a header called "JUSB1" its also along the bottom near the center

Looks like you are doing ok, with a little help. Your doing the right thing and asking questions as you go. Patience is the key, once you've done a few it's much less daunting.

Stulids pic should help you with the mobo headers. Some mobos now come with an adapter so it's easier to connect the chassis cables to it then plug this adapter onto the pins on the mobo.

The cables are in pairs as you can see +&- sometimes they are paired together into one connector (2 cables go into the plastic tab) or they can be split (one cable goes into the plastic tab). If they are split you need to grab them both check which is + and - then put them on the right pin.

If you are still unsure take a pic of the chassis cables (power sw, power led etc) we can tell you what goes where.

Good evening.
Tonight's mission is to complete the wiring and get it all fired up ready to go!!

I shall use the JFP1 header as suggested. My previous query still bothers me though ----
Those pins that are labelled power led + and - in the manual on the JFP1 are both called "FP PWR/SLP" on the corresponding adapter pins. I have fitted them according to the manual diagram anyway.

I tried to add a photo to show you but this apparently requires a URL to add images and I dont have one for pics that are on my pc??

Anyway; Yes, Stulid, the reset switch and power switch and hDD led are all double wires in one connector.

I have 2 USB connectors coming from the case but apparently only one on the board. The one on the board is a red socket. It also has a USB3.0 but there isnt one on the case. I suppose I will just connect the one. There are loads on the back of the machine from the board so I can just use them.

you can use imageshack to upload a picture too, it then gives you the link to put up for the picture.

The block probably has "FP PWR/SLP" on it, as when you press the power button quickly, you can put the pc to sleep, if you hold down the power button, it turns off fully.

Hi Stulid

So surely the LED pins shouldnt go into that socket?

Of the 2 SATA cables that came with the board one has one end that has a connector at 90 degrees to the cable. Is that for any reason? Does it matter which I use for HDD and DVD?

The right angle SATA doesnt matter, it just enables a neat build, tidy build.

If your holding the plastic block, just connect the wires so it matches the diagram above perfectly, the block hopefully has that extra pin on the end so you can get the orientation right.

I have put it together as per the diagram.

I have just noticed something...The cables from the case are clipped neatly to the spece behine the montherboard with the ends coming through the bottom to the front side of the motherboard. This is fine but some of those wires on the back have connectors that end at the back of the board half way along the wire length. This is not a very good description!! Do you know what I mean? Is this just a bunch of extras for thinsg i dont need right now?

They could be for the fans, the case has a fan controller

So you connect up two power plugs from the PSU, connect two case fans into the the fan headers, and place the probe somewhere you want to monitor.
