Plusnet Discussion Thread

Just got email that my contract has expired and that can renew it. Currently get over 80mb downloaded with them but new contract says up to 66mb download, have to capped they download speeds ?

The most they offer is 80 Mbps, unless you managed to get on their FTTP trial. As far as I know they never offered G.Fast and 80 Mbps is the fastest speed you can get on FTTC.

Yeah just checked and I have 80/20 package and new package they are offering me is 66/20. Will email them and check what they say. No point of getting new 12 month contract if speed is gonna drop.

Check your email and make sure you are not paying anything extra on top of your current price or see if you can get it cheaper through customer services.

As an example...

We have just received our contract expiry email with the mention of a price increase up to £41.59 which is ridiculous for the same fibre extra package we currently have :o

The email offer does say renew at £26.99 but on their website it says £24.99 :D What a crazy world we live in when they have multiple prices for the same product posted over multiple places and formats.

Anyway, Currently we pay £24.99 for fibre extra and we had some cashback on top of that at the time which sweetened the deal. Our speed has been a steady 50 download but only 7-8 upload (I can live with that).

I know it's all confusing !!
I've been with them since 2013 and the are offering me 12 month contract for £24.99 just like you pay but want to keep the same speeds. Will contact their customers service and see what they say. I can get virgin cable as well but from what I hear their customer service is terrible and they cap their speeds.

As has been said repeatedly Plusnet are not changing your speed, you’re taking the number out of context, it’ll likely either say minimum or average, if you get 80/20 now, you will get 80/20 after renewal. Virgin varies by area, I get exactly what I pay for pretty much 24/7 as do many others. No caps, no over subscription, no agro and no noticeable connection drops, I do have a SH3, and I can provoke it into killing my connection with UDP traffic if I want to, but that’s about it. Some people aren’t so fortunate, and as a society we love to complain.

Fortunate, and as a society we love to complain.
Thank you ! Think will stick with Plusnet as don't want to do Virgin lottery. Much appreciated for your input :)

Has anyone been experiencing problems with YouTube recently? It takes ages to buffer and sometimes the bandwidth isn't sufficient so it drops the resolution down to 480p. A friend of mine is experiencing exactly the same problem.

When I connect to my Surfshark VPN, the problem completely disappears.

There's an old thread on Plusnet's forum with new replies about this issue.

I noticed recently that YT (last week or so?) was defaulting to 480p when on auto, but if I manually put it up to 1080p it plays fine, no buffering. I'm on Plusnet.

I'm using the Plusnet one because my TP-Link WD-9970 v2 router isn't powerful enough to cope with my usage any more. I could plug it back in though and test.

I haven't had a chance to plug my old TP-Link router back in, but that Top Gear trailer I linked to earlier is playing perfectly at 4k60 this morning without a VPN connection so I have my doubts about the router being the cause of the problem.

Like I said, it's just something I remember when this last came up. Or I might be getting confused with Facebook, as I believe they also had Facebook issues.
