This is a speedtest result for my plusnet connection. Believe it's supposed to be 8Mbps down and 0.5Mbps up. Although most isp's seem to think we shouldn't be able to get more than 4Mbps in our area. We were thinking of switching over to infinity at some point though.

My opinion would be biased but if you've any questions about the service then I'll be happy to answer them.
This should give you a reasonable indication of the speeds you'd be able to receive.
And this is mine
(restricted somewhat by the 200Mbps powerline adapters I'm using, plugged into the router directly the download looks more like this).
Not sure what's going on with the upload there as other flash testers report it to be much higher (~16Mbps).

Plusnet is BT, just like GiffGaff is o2. I used to be on Plusnet before I moved. No problems.

That's a pretty good result. How far are you from the exchange may I ask? Also have you got BT Infinity enabled in your home area? You're getting an ideal connection close to what you're supposed to be getting. Nearly 7Mb/s and 0.4Mb/s - to me that seems pretty well.
Although a lot of things could affect the broadband at times.
The very same, the guys a legend. If I didn't get a staff deal with Virgin, I'd be on Plusnet more than likely.
The new 80mbps fibre package looks like excellent value if you don't need more than 250gb prime time allowance. ~£30 all in for line rental, Evening & Weekend calls, 250gb peak/unlimited off peak, 80/20.
I'd probably sign up for that if I wasn't already contracted to another provider.

Can't fault Plusnet one bit.
When I moved into my own place, BT were a pain in backside to deal with and I ended up cancelling my order. Went on to the Plusnet website on the Saturday and placed my order, and on Monday morning my phone line was active. The following Monday my broadband was live.

AskSam states our exchange is the Newport Savoy. We live about 1.6 miles (road distance) from there. We had to call Openreach out to us about 3 or 4 years back to get the telephone line in the street replaced to fix our dreadful connection and the guy said that the box down the street was in a very poor state. (no idea if they have ever done anything about it but we haven't had any connection problems since they replaced the cable) We've been with the same ISP for close on a decade now, was originally Metronet which became plusnet.
If Kei's in a 21CN-enabled area then I can probably bump the upstream speed a little?

It's been 5 or 6 years (maybe more) since I was with Plusnet. It was after they bought their traffic shaping hardware, but before the were bought by BT.
I was with them for a couple of months before I left after they tried to force a change of the terms and conditions of their users without giving them the proper timeframe to accept or reject. After many threats of legal action by many users, they let us out of our contracts. Suffice to say I wouldn't go back to them if you paid me.
They may well be better now, but trust, once lost, is hard to regain.
That, and I'm cable now and there's no way in hell I'd go back to a decidedly inferior ADSL connection
