Hi
Im thinking of setting up a raid array with two 10000 raptor HD but am unsure about about a fews things.

my specs are
mobo = GA-p35-dq6
cpu= q6600
Gpu =BFG 8800GTX
hardrives two raptor= 10000 rpm
1 dvd drive
no floppy drive

Do i need a floppy disk drive to install the raid controller is there any other way that this can be done ?

Does anyone have a good guide on this please post link ?

Also is it possible to have a totally sepertae HD for storage that is not in RAid 0 ?

Thx :)

You can slipstream the RAID drivers in to a windows CD using this program:

http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

I did it with winxp for my old mobo with a Intel ICH5R RAID controller.

Also, yes you can have a seperate hdd not in raid. Either connect it to a different controller, or use the same controller if you have enough SATA ports - when setting up RAID 0 just dont select the HDD you want for storage, or unplug it untill you have setup the array and installed windows.

*thx for reply *

I already have xp on one of the raptors so if i reformat them connect the second raptor and go into bios and config the raid controller and then install the os am i missing somthing?

Also do you have a guide on how to install xp on a raid 0 array ?

thx

You need to format your drive with OS on it, enable the RAID bios in your motherboards BIOS, load the RAID bios when prompted (I think your mobo has Intel controller) so press Ctrl + I (I think), then follow the instructions. Then install XP as normal (the array appears as 1 single hard drive).

If you want a guide google..

okay one last question where does the floppy disk come into it ?

thx

When you install windows, it will say "press F6 to install additional drivers", when you press it, nothing happens till the end of the loading drivers process, and you get a screen prompting you to insert a floppy to install drivers.

However, as I said before, you can use nLite to slipstream your raid drivers in to your XP CD. All you have to do is put your old XP cd in to your PC (whilst in winxp), copy all the files from the CD to a tempory folder on your PC (e.g C:\temp), then point nlite to the folder to use the files, then there should be a list of something like "additonal drivers" or something like that, and follow the instructions.. then it creates an image for you to burn to a CD with the RAID drivers on (so you dont need floppy).

Thx srry bout late reply

one problem do i need 2 cd drives because if im reinstalling xp then one drive will hav the xp cd in and the other the raid drivers ?

thx

I think you have misunderstood what I meant. When you slipstream the RAID drivers on to a winxp CD, the drivers are then APART of the winxp CD and your RAID controller will then be detected automatically.

Thanks for posting that, should come in handy.
