I'm not a thieving piece of ****, so I would hand it in.

Q F T!!
Totally agree there. All these scumbags who justify keeping it without the slightest attempt at being noble.
Hand it to the manager or police with your details. If you're trying to justify it by saying its cash money and untraceable (without a wallet ), then you should have no quarms handing in it thinking that no one will claim it and it will be yours.

Shame on the pocketeers!

btw, last month a bunch of us went for an indian meal, one guy paid by card so pocketed some of the cash we all chucked in. Amongst them a £50.
He tried spending it at Sainsburys the other day and was collared saying it was fake cos the cashier drew a line on it with a marker and it read wrong (or whatever). He was told it had to be confiscated, for reasons beyond me so he just walked out after using alteriors means to pay. That was that!

What's to say the cashier didn't use a normal marker or whatever, lie to my friend and pocket the £50. They didn't take my friends details down or anything. They just took it from him....and he left

Whilst working at Sainsbury's I found £40 on the floor outside of the store. I handed it in to customer services who said they would hold on to it in case someone reported it missing.

4 weeks later I went back to customer services to ask if anyone had claimed it, they sad no one had but I couldn't have it as I was an employee, the next time I find anything of value I'll be handing it in to the police!

I would have started an argument, theres no way they would be taking a £50 from me like that.

Best thing to do is not hand it in anywhere, but give supermarket/police your number so that the person that has lost said item/money can claim it off you. That way if no body claims it, then the rightful person gets to keep what they found (and be safe in the knowledge that you have done the right thing), the original owner has the same chance of reclaiming their item as if you handed it in.
I like this. :)

I found £500 quid in a purse around 3/4 years ago at about this time of year. Could have just walked off with it as it was in a car park, but handed it to the police and the woman and her husband found me when i was at work and was in tears saying thank you and that it was her kids entire christmas money.

Sounds gay as hell, but i don't think anything feels as good as that....well...apart from a free £500 :(:p

EDIT: strangely, last week i found:

Monday: 50 euro note on the floor.

Wednesday: 10 pound note on the floor

Friday: £5 note on the floor.

trust me....look down people!

Shocking statistics - 63% would pocket it :(

I'm hoping its internet bravado, coupled with younger members who don't really know the meaning of money who have voted to pocket it.

That £200 could have been a frail little old ladies savings she has just drew out for her Christmas shopping.

finders keepers.

edit,

that doesn't mean i would keep the 200 ;)

i would pocket it, as others have said if it was a purse/wallet i would give it in but cash in a bundle i would keep.

See fair enough I'd hand that in, but £200 in a supermarket with no form of ID? Definately take it, if you hand it in it'll never be claimed so whats the point?

Hand it in everytime, obviously some one has been in a bit of a hurry with it being Xmas etc and misplaced it. Makes me sick that people would just pocket it, vultures.

karma may catch you up, I remember when i was about 8 my uncle bought some fish and he was given £20 instead of £2 change, consequently on the way back he shut the door on his finger and got a Black Nail for it, took the change back the next day :D.

If you take it to the Supermarket they'll just pocket it so if you're really feeling guilty about it go to the Police.

I handed it in. The woman behind the counter just took my name and number on a scrap of paper. She said she'd ring if no-one claimed it. (no she wasn't fit)

when I paid I popped back and asked her if anyone came for it. she said they did.
shesaid the guy was gonna ring me to say thanks - no one ever called

I'm beginning to think she could have just pocketed it herself!

At least you paid for her Christmas, you utter fool.

I found £60 in Asda once, couldn't have been more than 10-12 at the time, handed it in and as my and my Mam were some woman went crying into the toilets with a member of staff. Turned out it was her money she'd got for the weekly shop, without handing it in they'd have had nowt. Got a card through the door about a week later with £5 in it thanking me for handing it in, a good deed is always repaid, erm sometimes, maybe....
