Seen on the BBC about some girl that thinks she has about 250k worth of pokemon cards.

now my set doesn't appear to be as rare (unfortunately the 1st editions i have aren't charizard), however i'm sure they are worth a fair bit of money in total as i have many sets, with almost every single card mint condition (thank god i had no idea how to play this game as a kid)

wondered if others have got theirs valued? I can see ebay listings, but i don't feel this gives a very good idea of how much the cards are worth.

How much you'll get is based on level of effort.

1.There'll be stores that will simply buy your collection but will obs undercut the market rate, but they take the risk of holding stock.
2.You could list everything as a lot on ebay and hope that people notice chase rares and bid like crazy for the lot.
3.List each card on ebay and keep attempting to sell until you get what you want. Base values on completed (sold price median over 2 weeks) - most effort and will take hours longer than the others.
4. Try to get lucky on FB / Gumtree

Note as someone who's sold TCG cards over the years (magic player of 25 years on / off) , prepare to lose a number of ebay lots (assuming you go that route) on scammers who'll simply say you've sent a fake card. Since fake cards are illegal, they don't even need to ship it back. I and others I know have been stung - it happens.

Oh and don't sell abroad.

I had a substantial collection back in the day, chucked them when I moved years ago, around 2005.
I had a shiny Charizard...

I was annoyed when they were going for £50 ish years ago, but now worth much more. I try to forget about it, so thanks for reminding me, OP.

I'm sure I had one too but I have no idea where they went. Presumably got chucked out at some point :(

If it makes you feel better I parted with a house deposits worth of Magic the gathering in the early 2000's for about £150

I have a full set minus charizard and was offered £80 for them in a shop a few years ago, I turned it down because I reckon probably worth more and they aren't taking much room up. Demand seems a lot higher for them recently. Tempted to grab a charizard on fleabay just to make a full set then sell the lot tho.

It's not worth it. Seeling cards individually ALWAYS yields more. Most collectors don't care for a "full set", they want as many hard to obtain cards as possible (sol multiples of the rarest ones).

I gave my pokemon cards to my twin brother so I could put the computer in my room when I was a kid. I had lots of shinys. Including charizard.

Think of all the fun I had though. Red alert. Dial up porn.

I have a couple of complete sets somewhere as well as some sealed booster and promo packs and a couple of the less rare first edition cards.

When I looked a few years ago it was probably worth a few k. If this becomes the next reddit investment craze I'd be tempted to sell.

I've got boxes and boxes of these in the loft from when my brother and i use to play around the same period (at least i hope i still do, as they're buried under mountains of kids lego).

I thought they may have some value but hadn't considered that there was the possibility of big bucks. Still not sure it's worth battling my way through scores of lego boxes and other assorted crap - that is one light breeze away from causing an avalanche... (literally scores - we've had to stack the boxes like house bricks. It was all my son wanted for 12 years - Xmas and birthday).

*None of my decks are sealed so would be dependent on rare cards and condition. Plus, I wasn't particularly careful when handling the cards as we usually drank beer and ate snacks when we all played. As much as i enjoyed the anticipation of getting new cards i enjoyed the playing and relaxing with mates more. So, although we were careful (laid out shuffle and mats etc) they won't be anywhere near mint.

Plus, i have such fond memories making decks and meeting up with old Uni mates I would probably find them difficult to part with. That said, if they were valued in the £1000's i think i could overcome my nostalgia...

Just to be clear, you think fond memories die just because you sold a stack of cards, rather than maybe just keep 2/3 ones to remind yourself? Also the lego thing come on, sell/chuck them too.

You're holding on rubbish for no reason. Don't horde. Sell.

Preaching to the choir to a degree. My wife is sorting the lego, as it's all mixed, for selling (he's keeping a couple of sets that mean a lot to him. But, he's going to make hundreds - especially the Harry Potter sets - i would rather give it away for ease and give him the money (I like my space and the house not covered in lego for weeks while it's being sorted. I value ease and space that much more.).

But, if the Magic cards are not worth much - although i agree with the pragmatism of your post - looking through old cards is almost as nostalgic as photos. So, if only a few hundred - it may be one of the few items i hold on to. But, if verging into 1000's they're dust.

Google the reserve list. Cards on that list are worth more because WOTC will never reprint them

I looked into selling my old cars after finding them in storage last year. Ebay appeared to be the best place to sell them but obviously comes with all sorts of problems. In the end I decided not to bother because mine are probably only worth a grand or so meaning after ebay fees and getting messed around by scammers I couldn't be bothered. If you decide to sell yours one thing you should note is that what you think is a mint condition card is almost certainly not. People grade these things professionally (and graded cards are worth a lot more) and even a card fresh out of the pack will not be a 10/10 grade 9 times out of 10.
