Poker

The standard of Live poker is a lot worse than online, Live games are dead money. If u play in a grovesnor tourney prepare to walk through a mine field, the standard is that bad the donks will get you eventually, if the insanely high blinds dont.

don't forget that you will need to apply for membership in advance( 24hrs I think ) , you can't just turn up

That's not the case anymore. I'm not sure when it finished, but you can now stroll upto the reception, join (with suitable photo ID), and walk right in. I did it at 3:00AM the other Friday at Napoleans, and my mate joined the Grosvenor a couple of months ago, and they gave him his card there and then.

Shame our Grosvenor doesn't have a card room.

.

I knew it was due to be changed but didn't know that it already happended :)

ladbrokes, and former pacific maester here.

been to aprty poker+the rest and they sucked tbh!

the best one i have seen in terms of winning isn "TITAN" poker. they just kept giving my mate free money, and he won loads too (the standard was very poor..)

mainly do STT's, and do a few cash tables but at lower stakes, i.e i take $5 to a table, and them bomb on the first hand i get, hopefully double/treble up, and move to a new table...

Super bump.

Can anyone recommend any poker books? I know all the basics, strong hands weak hands etc but I really lack strategy. I feel I could "paly" my cards a lot better. I've been playing for a couple of years but all my mates are a similar sort of skill level. Bearing this in mind, what poker books would be best to read?

That is some bump,
Dan Harringtons books are highly rated, also Caro's book of Poker tells is a classic.
+ a copy of Rounders is a must for any poker fan.

Also play real games more often, I'm back to 2 games now per week and doing well. Just need more bait nowdays. Probably playing tonight actually.

I can't get on at all with the net, for me poker is a social thing and i spend too much time already infront of a monitor.

I never play online. Real life is much better. Problem is my mates are probably as clueless as me, and won't play the expected way. They'll bet on anything sometimes, and since it's limit poker I can't really push them out as easily. and we only play for a fiver each most days. I guess that's the way with mates that are students and layabout bums :o

I know I can take them out with a bit of reading and practise though. Would love to be able to go and play poker and come out with a profit 80% of the time.

I play PKR but only because the company I work for designed the website :D

I quite like it. I put $40 in when I started and have never gone below that so definately getting my moneys worth, I don't plan to make a lot of money on it I just enjoy the ups and downs.

After the cards were shown you were only a 1000 to 1 favorite ;)

I'm playing a tournie tomorrow night in Bristol and play a lot online. a lot of books have helped me, but Harrington on Hold'em volumes 1-2 especially have helped a lot in large tournies.

It gets easy to make money eventually, but I believe that it was really 2 years before I properly understood the game.

Harrington on Hold Em looks good, but it won't cover limit games. Any other boosk to suggest?

Super System 2 was interesting and the fact that each game is penned by a different author gave a good balance.

David Sklansky has a couple of excellent books, the small stakes hold'em one is probably best because any talk of no limit hold'em also covers a lot of limit strategies due to the lower stakes.

Mike Caro's book of poker tells is fantastic imo for live games.

Small stakes holdem by ed miller , dave sklansky and mason malmuth is regarded as the low limit hold em bible. Its what I used i'm currenlty 5K up in just over 2 years :D
