police win the right to camouflage speed cameras

Thats all good and well, however can you tell your doing 33mph and not 30, thats the diff between getting 3 points or not, also it can also be hard to hold an exact speed for a long period.

With all due respect, you're allowed speed limit +10% + 2mph as leeway, which in a 30 zone = 35mph.
I consider it a little scary at the number of people claiming that they're incapable of holding a fairly steady speed down a road.
Still, maybe I'm a "road God" and can claim a 9/10 on my "maintaining a constant speed" in 30 zones. Now where was that in the recent poll about driving ability.

I have no problem holding a constant speed down a road, when i want to, and can judge my speed fairly well and stick to it if i choose, problem is i tend to get suckered into being shunted along by other road users, like everyone i speed sometimes but i choose the location to do so, i refuse to speed outside schools or down roads i know have people walking beside them, also depends on the time of day.

I think what your missing is the fact its very easy to drift slightly over the limit, yes you may notice it and keep it in check but those few seconds you were oblivious to your 1-3mph (speedos dont registed in such units so you wouldnt know) over the limit, the camera has asked you to say "cheese", since you have no idea where it is your none the wiser. Unless you have cruise control and remember to switch it on to every speed change your going to get caught. Think of it this way if people are getting caught frequently by the visible ones imangine what happens when they are invisible. Heck even insurance companies dont take then that seriously anymore with people seeing only a £30-50 increase in premiums for having 3 points.

Also on average you aren't going to be driving in a 30 area non-stop for hours (yes, yes, 2 before each rest period) on end like you would at 70 on the (+/- 10% + 2mph) on the motorway.

Easy for me, just wack on the cruise control when on the motorway, dial it to 77(or 75 to be safe) and bobs yer auntie.

I think that Firestar has summed it up nicely. So many people do speed that they encourage others to act as lemmings and follow the pack.
Get into the habit of driving at the speed limit, ignore the other lemmings around you and you'll be fine.
