Whenever I hear stories like this I can't feeling that there's a lot more to it than that. Like just how ****y did you friend get when pulled over?

Not necessarily. I had a policeman pull me over a few months ago and he was snotty and rude from the off, and I had done nothing to warrant being pulled over either.

My brother was driving me home from a party once and we pulled over into a supermarket car park to try and find a cash machine.

Unfortunately the policeman nearby thought we were going in to shoot up on drugs and we got pulled over

Oh AFAIK its required of the policemen to full in a form with all the details on how long/why/where you were pulled over.

I have absolutely NO sympathy for people who get pulled over then come and moan about how much of their time was wasted.

I firmly believe there is no such thing as a completely random pull over by the police - you have to be doing something to attract their attention, probably your driving style, even if not neccesarily illegal.

I believe I can say this with a reasonable amount of confidence becuase I have never, ever, been randomly pulled over by the police despite driving around in cars which would often be tricky to insure at my age, often late at night, often with others in the car with me, and until recently, in a modified car as well. So thats all the stereotypes people reckon police pick on.

Even since I got the 5 Series I still don't get pulled over, despite apparently looking like I'm 12

Too right, fed up of reading how people are victimised constantly from the police yet haven't done anything. In my 5 years of driving I have never once been pulled over despite driving some cars you wouldn't neccessarily expect from someone of my age.

Also, I would be happy to be pulled over everytime I left the house if it reduced the number of uninsured or illegal drivers on our roads. Should be encouraged, they are there to do a job so there is no need to have such an attitude about it!

I remember when I first past my test and got my first car, a little dodgy Mk4 escort.
I was pulled over weekly, guranteed.
If I saw a cop car I would just pull over anyway because they would turn round and stop me. 9/10 it was crazy
I always had my documents on me and nothing ever came of it, the one time I did question the amount of times I got pulled over, the nice police officer replied

"look at it this way, if your car ever got stolen you would proberly get it back same day"

If you look a little "dodgy" they use any reason to pull and search you and you car as a fair amount of time they find stuff..

The police actually do catch a hefty amount of illegal going-ons just by doing seemingly pointless and irritating stop-searches. Just remember there's a reason behind everything they do, they aren't out to annoy everyone deliberately

The last time I was pulled over (and the only time it's happened in my chav'd up grandad mobile) was when I turned left up a one way street on my route home.

I didn't even notice the police car coming the other way, until I saw them racing up behind me, blues and twos flashing.

They asked me if I knew why'd they pulled me over to which I replied, "No". They thought I was trying to evade them by turning left... apparently it's a known thing for that to happen.

Fair enough, I was polite, answered their questions and was left to carry on my journey.

I'll join in with the "we aren't getting the full story" crowd here I'm afraid.
I've been driving since I turned 17 and over the years (especially in those early years) had the classic starter vehicles for the time (you people who pass now will NEVER know the joy of owning your first car the way we did because we really were buying wrecks).
MK1 Golf, this kind of vehicle.

I've now been driving for 14 years and in all that time (and this includes late night, early mornings etc) driving I've been pulled over twice.
Once was a random Christmas stop, breatherliser and then allowed on my way.
Another was at midnight when I left a shift at Tesco where I worked and I parked my car on a car sales lot as the Tesco carpark area was full.

Don't draw attention to yourself because at the end of the day the police would really rather be chasing criminals than stopping somebody, finding nothing and then looking for somebody else.

This would be illegal in the US. The 4th amendment protects you from searches that have no probable cause to back them up.

I dont understand the hassle people give the cops.

My dad had just picked me up and the lights turned red,the car infront of us just went on through but because the road has another smaller road that joins at the lights a cop car was sitting so he fires up the lights and pulled the dude over. Now for that few minutes he saved he can go get brethalysed and have to show his license n all that

A workmate of mine also go off with a warning for some pretty daft driving while carrying on with his mate. Wrong way round a roundabout,flying up the inside of each other n that. Course if your gonna be a Mr im gonna report you then the cop is gonna be a penis to you.

Don't get me wrong folks, my dad is a policeman and my street is filled with them, so I am in no way against the police, and I am all for stopping and asking for documents and just a general check of the drivers condition as it will cut down on the amount of people with no licence or insurance.

But it is the fact that he searched my car with no apparent reason that got me.

I had only been driving for less than 100yards (came out of car park, turned right to roundabout, noticed policeman on the first exit, and then took the third exit, only to be followed and pulled over).

Maybe it is what people are saying they also get pulled over for here: the conidtion of the car. I currently have a 95 clio which looks like a rust bucket (cost 100 quid a year ago).

I guess it was late last night, and I was a little annoyed, but now I'm good..

Constables power to stop vehicles and request documents. The police do not need a reason to do this.

As far as searching you or the vehicle goes then they do need a reason and are required to make a written record of the search of which you are entitled to a copy.

Your wrong. They've pulled me and said it was a random check, numerous times. Nothing got to do with my driving style also. They pull me because there bored...how do i know? Because i asked!

I look young too, but not 12 lol. More like 18ish! Ive lost count how many times ive pulled...ive been driving just over 2 years, maybe been pulled about 12 times? Not once did any of the officers mention my driving style was to blame. oh, and i drive an A3, nothing spectacular, imagine if i owned a 5 series....

The OP is in Northern Ireland and the Stop & Search rule book is only applicable in England & Wales. I would imagine there are a similar set of guidelines though. He could always ask his father as he has also stated he is a Police Officer.

Ive recently found this out! Ive been searched 3 times now, never got a search record for any of them, although they did tell me why.

The police will not stop a vehicle because they are bored, aside from the fact that they are always busy, why on earth do you think stopping you would make them any less bored??!!

Imagine if you had the power to stop/search people. What would you do? Find some chavs, pull them over just to be nosey. If any of them get remotely abusive, lock them up! Fun init?
