na i would say people would buy the new nvidia card but come on the price is just to big as for the same amount you can probably get two 4870 and have some left over

I doubt it very much, apparently nvidia has lowered prices in response but obviously they wont go as low as the 4870 as it's a slower part, probably only a little faster than 9800GTX/8800GTX.

The thought of having 2x280's SLIed with 2 gigs of video ram 480 pipe lines and 1 gig of bandwidth tickles the hell out of me . :p

I cant wait to see real world oc testing on both the nvidia and ati cards .

in other words, way more powerful than i originally thought... If that is the case...

gosh, i can't wait to see benches and prices for each of the ATi cards - choosing between them at this early stage is SO annoying

Was thinking 280, but now, not so much, really looking forward to seeing the 4870 benches/price.

im also interested to see how the 4870 will do once it has been volt modded and clocked, im not sure if it would actually bring good gains to games though or just 3Dmark

So here is conclusive proof most of the users here are strongly biased towards ATI, in fact more so then I ever imagined. Interesting. :)

Bias suggests fan boys.

I think most users here are leaning towards what product gives them the most performance for their £.

Besides, the conclusive proof is in fact that most people are waiting to see both.

I think we now need a new poll: :p

Who ever voted that they will be purchasing the Nvidia GTX 280, will you be sticking to your choice now that they have been released? :D:D:D

Yes...

No...

That's a bit unfair. I currently have a Nvidia card but far more likley to buy ATI next time due to them been more likely to offere bang for bucks.

As today has proved, no way am I spending £470 on a GTX280 even if I had the money.

Plenty of other people on here looking at the GTX280 in the same way. Great card, great performance but no gain over a GX2 ( a lot of people have them on here) and finally "how much!"

Well It does not look like OCUK have sold out of 280's and i don't imagine they have that much stock, suprised there are no 260's I thought that GPU core was hard to make so plenty of crippled cores for the 260's ;)

Isnt this kind of a pointless question? Reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Peter has been offered a free boat:

Salesmen: .. now you CAN have the boat, but you could instead have this mystery box instead
Peter: A boats a boat, but a mystery box could be anything - it could even be a boat! We'll take the mystery box

Until all the facts are in, and we know what prices and performance the relative cards offer, you would have to be foolish to say one way or the other. Wise man say, only fools rush in..

(ATI. Sue me.)

If you start selling them both at the same time, you probably wont have enough crap cores to satisfy demand, so you then either have to sell good chips with disabled parts (X800 Pro - thx ATI) or run out of stock. Either that, or they didnt have the manufacturing down pat, and couldn't make the yields work (but I doubt it).

I'm hopping these new cards will slash the price of 9800 gx2 cards. As these are still very worthy and could be a bargain now the new cards are out.

We shall have to wait and see what performance is like and how the cost settles down in the next 8 weeks.
