Well the price that was on Amazon's page that was put up by mistake had the 4850 at $199. That would fit the pricing strategy Amd\Ati set out a while back meaning 4870 would be $299ish and the 4870X2 $499ish.

Interesting to see only 2% of votes for the GTX260. Even ignoring the none/wait and see options, that number is dwarfed by all the other cards.

Personaly I'm waiting to see what 4870 is like in terms of price/performance. If someone forced me to buy a card today, I'd probably go with the GTX260 though. At ~£262 it is considerably cheaper than the GX2 and offers solid (albeit worse) performance, without all the hassle associated with a dual-gpu card. The 280 is a non-starter for me at £400, and I suspect the 4850 will simply be too slow to make it worth ditching a 8800GTS for.

To be honest, that option I was weighing up a while back of 2x8800gtx extreme in SLI (back when they were like £158) doesn't look too bad right now, if you can leave aside the power consumption.

Here's hoping that 4870 can deliver 260 beating performance for under £250.

Most probably the 4870 X2 if the price turns out any good and i have a job for the summer. the GT200's seem to expensive for what they are, seem a bit like a Porche on a 30mph limit road.

8800gt is still hanging in their so maybe i will give this generation a miss as i still cant beleive the card is holding up everything i throw at it, extreme value for money.

Think i will leave it untill christmas when hopefully some power hungry games will come out, not worth the upgrade yet though.

looking at the 4870 to replace my 2900XT if it meets the following

works with a PSU that does not have the 8 pin connectors for graphics cards.

works with abit IP35-pro mb

Lot of reviews don't seem to put the 280 that much further ahead of the GX2 to make it worth the extra money you have to spend something wrong with that.

Are none of the new ATI offerings going to be 1GB native RAM ? They all seem to be advertised as 512MB . My 3870x2 (512 per GPU) is chuggy when there is a lot of textures being shifted about the screen (1900x1200)... I would be dissapointed if these new cards show similar results :(

the retailers ad more memory to 4870 if they wish it as ati said so expect 1 gig 4870 bit later after release. as for 4870x2 as some people say its going to have shared memory so its the same it should not have any problems that 3870x2 had and should work great at high resolutions

The 4850 is no faster than the 8800 GT

Until the cards are actually released and toms, firingsquad and the like have them we won't really know honestly.

The 4870 is the one I am mostly interested in though. If it performs better than an 8800 Ultra I will grab one, depending on the price vs performance obviously.

Sorry I know nothing about ATI cards, I'm a NV fanboy, but I dont knock anything till Ive tired it :p

Which ATI offering are we looking at that will have simular performance to the GTX280 or isnt there going to be one?
