Popular games you just don't get

Been looking at grabbing a new game and I keep seeing popular games that I just know I wouldn't like despite their popularity.

That got me thinking and I figured let's see what games everyone seems to love that the OCUK community just don't get and why.

So for me I'll start us off with Borderlands, Borderlands 2 technically as I never played the first outside of trying it at a trade show.

So it's supposed to be a somewhat fast paced shooter but you have to stop every few seconds to pick up your loot then appraise your collection of items to determine the optimal gear. Obviously I'm exaggerating but it feels like every time I kill someone comes with 5 minutes of inventory management which kind of pulls me out of the action. What's worse if you're playing co-op which seems to very much be the point it just makes it worse as you've now got 4 people doing it.
 
Most of the Battle Royale games, perhaps I'm to old, perhaps I cba, but trying COD Warzone, PUBG and Fortnite never really interested me, they became to complex and boring at the same time compared to classic FPS's with last man standing mode.

I actually got annoyed by the lack of uniformity in gear/guns in CoD, and in the tutorial they showed picking up armor pads and applying them and it was just cringe for me. The fact that it's a little bit of a fantasy/not historically accurate, even guns/gear wise, adds to the discontentness for me.
After 2-3 hrs of trying with mates I decided it's not a game for me! Or a genre overall.

Tried a few times to get into LoL, but it's not very noob friendly with the overwhelming amount of champions there are available (granted you have to actually play/pay to unlock most of them), all the optimal item setups to memorise, plus I'm not too keen on the matches being a minimum 30-40mins+. It's quite a commitment to my usual games where I can usually get at least 2 rounds in within that same time, or stop in between.

This for me. I didn't like BR in Arma 2 mod but I gave PUBG a go for a few hours and just decided the format wasn't for me. I like arena shooters and that's my bread and butter.

Never really clicked with MOBAS either. Or Hearthstone.

Borderlands
Elden Ring
Dark Souls
Top down roleplaying games (Diablo, Divinity Original Sin, Grim Dawn genre)
Turn based games
Single spawn FPS (like Counterstrike etc)
Driving / Racing games

Any MP shooter after BF2 as my reflexes started slowing and my amount of PC time available to unlock the good stuff dropped to a couple of hours a week.

Played ArmA 2 and 3 with a small clan for a while as it was only a few hours on a Sunday night. Was best as a driver or engineer as the lack of twitch skills didn’t matter so much.

ditto...... partly because the games are not really my bag but also partly because when i did try (maybe i got unlucky) I was met by some of the most unwelcoming and toxic players i have met in online gaming ever. (DOTA2)

also counter strike. similar reasons to above, i am not a fast pasted competetive shooter player in general and when i do play i prefer a more social kind of gaming, not the ultra competitive win at all costs kind of game.


bizarely tho, i do enjoy Fortnite (in small doses) and splatoon.............. so i guess i like some arena pvp games.

Tarkov.

Spend 15 mins playing the game and then the next 45 trying to fit all the random stuff into your inventory unless you pay an extra £100 for a bigger stash

All for all of your hard work to be wiped out every couple of months. Then after a wipe you can compete for a few days before everyone who has no life has top tier gear and you just go in and hide from them.
