Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

The 997.1 must be nearly at the sweet spot now with plenty of decent looking examples about. Nice 996 C4S's are almost the same money as them. Also trying to find a decent manual 996 C4S cab (my poser's dream car) is very tough. If only I had a spare £20k hanging around. Ho hum...

On a side note, passed a lovely black 996 turbo cab on the way home from work. Also hard to find and prices are rising!

Not really a nice 996 C4S examples are around 20k. 997.1's at 20k are high mileage, poor spec of feature the dreaded tiptronic slush box.

Clean, lower mileage examples of 997.1 with good specification (manual) are in the 25-35k region.

In short

996 C2/C4/S
10k = Bottom of market pile of junk
15k = Get a decent example
20k = 996 C4S in excellent condition
20-30k = C4S in perfect condition or 996 Turbo

997.1 C2/C4/S
20k = Bottom of market or very high miles
25k = Nice examples
30k = Low mileage with very driver focused specification
30-40k = Perfect exceptionally clean with top spec and low miles

997.2 C2/C4/S
30k = Bottom of market and very few cars to none or a previous written off/stolen car, AVOID!
35k = Around starting price, some OK examples, tend to be higher mileage.
40k = Better spec, lower mileage etc.
45k = Clear great examples here.
50k+ = Special edition cars, though GTS still over 60k

What are the thoughs on PDCC, as I have a 991 GTS on thursday. Also RWD or 4WD?

I have it on my car and I like it most people seem to recommend it.

Also the C4S is the sweet sport on the 991 and the C2S on the 997.x

This surprisingly all the reviewers seemed to prefer the C4S in the 991 as a drivers car, the C2S in the 991 is extremely fast but for whatever reason it seems a bit unloved.

Oh thats interesting, I was reading a review of the 991 GTS and they recommend the RWD over the AWD car. As they said the AWD isnt a playful as the RWD varitiant or words to that effect.

All 4 GTS models use the wide body 991 as well.

Thats the only thing that put me off the GTS, I had a wide body Targa years ago and found it hard to drive around london because it felt too wide.

Gibbo, yes most seem to like the 991 C4S over the C2S I have no idea why but they are a lot more money used and there are very few around.

70 Year Old Lady Uses Porsche 918 Spyder as a Daily Driver

Wish she was my granny.

From the article:
Her story showed up on Reddit, with multiple users claiming they've seen her driving her Porsche 918 Spyder in Marco Island. While so far we have no picture of her inside the vehicle, we do get to see her hypercar. In fact, one of the users was so determined to show us the metallic beast that he uploaded... a smartphone pic of his photo camera's screen.

From what I've read they're pretty much bomb proof. The main issue owners seem to face are rusting bolts and wastegate seizure. When they do go wrong they cost a fair bit to fix, but they are a lot more robust than the 3.4 and 3.6 996's. Prices are climbing.

Rusting bolts?

Where is a good source of info/buying guides?

There are loads of threads on pistonheads and 911UK. That's where I found most of the information on them. You should give Ray at Northway a call, if he's not busy he'd be more than happy to talk to you about any Porsche and they will also do a PPI on the car. They're based in Aldermaston and are very highly regarded when it comes to Porsches. Ray was a tech at AFN (Porsche Reading) for years and then branched out on his own. He has a team of several mechanics and they all know their stuff.

Just got to Silverstone PEC, so I will get some pictures. I've got the 911 GTS for the afternoon so I'll post my thoughts on the car compared to my GTS. :D

It’s been a great day the PEC as I had an invite from my OPC to come and test cars after for the afternoon. So I had the Boxster GTS, Cayman and the 991 GTS.

So my thoughts on the 991 GTS, is it’s a lovely bit of kit but it does have a different style to that of the Cayman and Boxster cars. What do I mean by a different style of driving when going from the Boxster / Cayman, the first thing I noticed about the 991 GTS (AWD) was a heaver frontend. It also has a different driving dynamic as with the 981 cars you need to trail break the cars in to the corners a lot more due to a lighter front end. However, over all thought the handling of the car is something else, it really does feel planted around the track.

On the kick plate thought, the difference are highlighted much more as you can feel the 911 has a much more heavy rear end and so the pendulum effect really comes in to play. However, it’s also very satisfying when you have all the electronics of the car off and then you catch the side and also a wee bit of drifting.

The 991 does also feel much bigger than my GTS and physically it is but I am not sure how it would feel on the road, as I have been tearing around the track all afternoon. I'd guess it may feel a little too wide. However, I would need to have a test drive on public roads to confirm that.
One area I did notice a huge difference was the breaks, it also probably doesn’t help that my car has PCCBs and the test car had normal steels. The car felt bigger and heaver as it is but still it stopped very well.

981 GTS & 991 GTS

So my final thoughts on these are a bit like chalk and cheese really, the Cayman is a much more playful car but this is partly due to the weight difference as it’s a lot lighter. Overall, I loved my experience in the 911 and that’s going to be my next car in a few years’ time especially in the Mexico blue.

I have a LOI in for a 991.2 GT3 at the moment, if that proves to be unsuccesful will be going with a 991.2 GTS. However, that does depend on the turbo engines. :mad:

Also my instructor was telling about the new supercar Porsche are due to bring the market in the next few years, it will be called the 960 and it shares the same chassis as the new Lamborghini Huracan as I am led to believe its a Porsche designed chassis.

Pictures to follow.
