Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I've been pretty lucky with most of my cars, but my F430 threw a $70k bill right at the beginning of ownership :(

OMFG!!!! what the hell, did you end up having to pay it your self? thats just crazy!

I will not own a car without a warranty and I try and buy quite new to avoid crazy bills.

I normally make it a rule to not buy outside of warranty too, but thankfully the Ferrari dealer stood behind their car.

It was a manual car, and I knew before purchase that the 5-6th synchro was bad, which they agreed to replace for me at my convenience.

When they took it in to do the work, they found shards of metal in the transmission, thus it needed a new transmission at $50k. It also needed new headers due to a known issue with the precats breaking up which can grenade the engine at another $10k. There were a few other bits too that needed doing which made up the last $10k.

Thankfully the dealer offered to pay for all that, leaving me to just pay for a new clutch out of good faith, so my bill was only around $8k.

When I finally got the car back, a week later the diff went bad, which was related to the new gearbox, so a new diff was needed at $20k, which, again, the dealer covered FoC.

These things can be eye-watering, and is one of the reasons I got rid of my Mclaren MP4 before the warranty was up, as it was horrendously unreliable with absolutely epic bills had I not had dealer support.

$50k for a gearbox is insanity.

You can get custom pneumatic-sequential for £10k ($15k).

Not that you'd mod a Ferrari, I just think the price ratio is interesting.

New was $298k on mine, though it was definitely a significant part of its current value!

Price of parts on exotics is absolutely ridiculous, it's just on another level, as are the labour costs.

I'm back into an Aston Martin with a warranty now, thankfully, but the price for an oil change at the dealer is $900....

That's why when someone ask about Ferrari cost.......

More than you can afford pal! :D

If any of my cars hit me with a 6k bill I think I would be physically sick.

I'd be the same! However, if I knacker one of my PCCB's I'm looking at 4K a corner.

Mind you, I did blow a engine up in my old Honda and that cost me 6K for a new engine and box. Who said Honda's where bullet proof. :p:mad:

I think its around £350 ~ at the OPC if you don't supply your own oil and around £150 ~ if you do. However, it doesn't need doing for 20K or 2 years which ever comes sooner but for piece of mind ill do mine every year regardless of the mileage.

For now... with wifey getting a job, we're talking about cars before house & thinking of sticking the house deposit into an F12 for a year or two. Still a few years before we could do that though and the F12 may have been replaced... I just hope they hold onto the high-revving V12 loveliness instead of adding FI.

Just means owning one while it's under warranty - yikes!

That'll break me though... gotta have the experience, but I'll struggle to be happy in another car...

Bah... you can do it... go onnnnn.

I assume you've seen the price of the new "more fun" Mclaren isn't really *that* much more expensive...? :D

£3200 rebuild when my scoob engine went pop.

That included adding a sump baffle so it didn't do the same thing again.

Didn't realise until after blowing the engine up that they have inherent design flaws that let them go pop if you actually drive them hard...

I'm doing the major/minor service at Porsche, but the interim oil/filter change myself... it's such a simple thing to do and only takes 10-20 minutes, it doesn't seem worth getting them to do it, just for an oil change. When there's more involved and for the main parts of the history though, then it's worth it...

6 year service for my Boxster S cost 1372 Euro in Germany... or about £980 inc vat.

That included the oil (I'd bought my own but left it in the frikking garage that morning), all filters, brake fluid change, a new aux belt and a brand new dickring (sorry, dichtring).

I had to lol at that:

On the other hand though... if there is any interim maintenance due, they're probably more likely to spot it than I...

I tend not to make claims I don't follow through on... not saying it'll happen tomorrow, but there's scope for it, thanks to Swiss salaries...

Minds do change though... I was adamant for a while that I'd get myself an E92 M3... ended up changing my mind and buying a Porsche because I'd been driving a BMW for 4 years :p I'm not sure I'll have the same problem with a Ferrari...

Wife is almost as bonkers as me... so that helps... ;)

Thrashing cars from cold before getting oil up to temp kills engines. Are there any things other the bore scoring/IMS issues that I could tell?
Like smoking or oil colour etc?

If I ever get a Porsche. It'll be a naturally aspirated one.

Not into this turbo nonsense anymore.

Steering wheel mounted drive select, I like. Too many cars have a fiddly button on the wrong side of the center console as it was designed for driving on the other side.
