Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Not interested in the Cayman much, but am interested to see the race cars and whoever the guest speaker might be.

Quite the opposite for me, could be my next car, but I don't plan to change for another yearish, which could mean a used 991 or gen2 GT3 would be around the 40-50k mark and well as good as the new Cayman will be think I'd rather a 991 or gen2 GT3. Even GT2's could be circa 50k in a year or so, certainly gen1's already are!

Gen 2 GT3 is what I shall be seeking out this weekend for a drive. Time to get Porkside again is close and I think Gen2 GT3 is the sweet spot, Gen 2 RS perfect but still a little too far away right now.

You'd be mad to choose a Cayman out of those. Loads of depreciation vs some lovely cars!

I've no experience of cars in this price bracket, but to me, Porsche = everyday sports car.

The first time I drove a Porsche (manual 996 C2) , I thought "wow, this might be ugly, but it's seriously capable". The first time I drove a Ferrari (manual 360 spider) I thought "wow." & immediately started auditting organs to see what I might be able to spare.

If I could only run one as a daily, there'd be no contest. But as a weekend toy for a guy who has reality as context rather than fantasy, given that you have a mule (lol) for the day to day stuff, even as a Porsche guy, how does the Gen2 GT3 Vs F430 thing work out?

Ive not had either so cant comment with any real insight but you tend to come down in one camp or the other. However I have a number of friends and associates who have had both and I think across the play most would chose the GT3 again and the Ferrari once. The Ferrari is the itch, the Porsche is the one that will keep you coming back.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I guess much of my Ferrari "wow." comes from the F40 poster on my bedroom wall as a child. I grew to respect the capability of Porsche as an adult, but the unbridled childish WANT still screams Ferrari.

What with racing etc, you're clearly more driver than badge poser, but you haven't mentioned having ticked the Ferrari box once yet; so are you tempted to indulge, or you dyed in the wool Pork and/or just don't have the Ferrari itch to scratch?

Spot on. Can't see me selling the GT3 any time soon despite spending time in some more exotic alternatives. :)

Pic? Go on then, if you insist!

GT3 looks epic, so much want!

Can you get them with normal hubs though? I heard the centre locks need to be replaced fairly regularly on them for some reason and it is very expensive? Must be a pain at tyre shops too. Pure gimmick really for a road car.

Am I mental for wanting that GT3 over EyeDot's F40?

Lovely bit of kit.

Nope, F40 is a part of history, an all time great. But as a car to live with day to day, be reliable whilst truly immense to drive on both road and track, the GT3 is hard to beat.

Day to day, or for an only car, sure I'd keep the GT3. One or the other for a weekend car(as mine is) - F40 all the way. History or otherwise it would never be anything other than an experience.

Centre locks are standard and no official option to replace. Some people in the states have replaced the hubs though...

They are pointless and potentially expensive. Porsche just replaced them all the other week as there was a design flaw. However, if looked after and checked regularly they are perfectly safe and reliable now. The biggest downside for me is having to go to Porsche for tyres as there aren't many places I'd trust to torque them properly.

They do look cool though ;)

Why anyone would want to buy a track focused, teeth rattling, sharp and tramline prone GTx 911 to drive on Britains roads is beyond me.

It's almost a little 'mid life crisis' which the Porsche community could do with a little less of - Owners with cars set up for a track they visit all of about 2-3 times a year (at best).

There seems to be an amazing obsession these days with 'track' performance, which by and large does not even extend to the drivers daring to actually race their cars properly - rather them driving neatly around without getting close to each other, let alone touching - perish the thought!
