Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

That really bothers me, along with the Ford GT. The whole point of the GT class of racing is a road-car based class (AFAIK no road-going Ford GTs have been delivered yet). A mid-engined 911 GT car is simply a race car designed from the ground up. It's heading back to the days of GT1 and the costs involved, when GT3 was never meant to be that expensive.

Why don't they just... replace the discs and pads and change the drive converter box

I did question that also but they said they will just cut their losses and sell it at auction.

Stupid really as they have a workshop so they can probably do it for 3k in parts. I was paying 42 100 for the car I assume they will get under 40k at auction.

Probably saved me from buying something I don't really want anyway lol.

That Porsche, plus the Ford GT and Ferrari compete in GTE which is the former GT2 class.

I'm aware of that, I follow the WEC. However, the intention of the class is road-based cars and engines with the intention of keeping costs at a reasonable level. Ford don't even have a road car, and Porsche have slapped a 911 badge on a from the ground up race car that has little to do with the road car. It's not that different to the GT1 days when the idea was for road-based race cars, then Porsche arrived with the 911 GT1.

It's just that you referenced GT3 in your post which is another class altogether and relies heavily on BoP so there is no real point in making a purpose built race car.

GT3 and GTE are classes with very similar goals, the terms are nearly interchangeable, and both have significant BoP controls. WEC this year made more BoP changes to GTE Pro than in any other year.

I've been in talks with my OPC about a 991.2 and having one on loan for a week when mine goes in for its first service next month. I'd prefer the car in a Mexico Blue but I am waiting on lead times for that at the moment.

Is there anything worth changing or I have missed?

At this price point, which surprised me how much they have gone up, I would urge you to go and test a McLaren 540C

To add I have no idea how you buy your cars, but the 3 year retained value on McLaren I believe is significantly better than a 911, so you could get a far higher priced car for a lower monthly spend, if you fund your cars that way.

I was due to be looking at a 570S at the start of the month from McLaren London but I day before they phoned to say someone had written off the car and i've heard nothing from them since. I'll go else where now TBH, I was recommend another McLaren dealer by a GT3 owner so ill start the process shortly on that one.

I'd just quiet like a 911 really as well, as I am a huge Porsche fan.

It's just normal HP, as I was going to use my GTS as the depo and put in a little more cash. It normally takes me ages to make a choice on a car but there is something about a Mexico blue 911 which is magic.

If you have always wanted a 911 then fair play, but I think McLaren has moved the game on quite a bit of late and at the 130K price point I think they hold the cards with the 540C and 570S (which is more like 150K). I can recommend McLaren Solihull but have heard mixed to poor reports about London and Ascot. I too was due to drive the 570S, but work got in the way and I've not had the time to do so yet and won't now until the new year.

What GTS do you have?

Seriously nice looking build, why the ceramic brakes out of interest? I would be really put off buying a car with them as they seem so expensive to maintain for little benefit day to day. If you're on a track every weekend I can understand, but otherwise £5k could surely be saved or better spent elsewhere?

Not really. They should last for 100K miles if well maintained and that would more than pay for itself in the long run. They also provide incredible non-fade braking, once warmed up as cold they are not good and also retain some resale value. They also reduce the unsprung weight at each corner, though not sure most people would realise this in normal driving.
