Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Good enjoy. As I said don't think anyone who is just reading about the GT4 this morning will be getting one for well over a year.

So not limited then, something they intend to produce many of and keep producing each year?

Or are we talking GT3 limited numbers and as such the brand new price will always be the lowest price as used 991 GT3's are fetching more than they were new due to lack of availability?

GT3's have gone mad, they are all silly overs and frankly they are due an adjustment at some point this year I fear. The 997 GT3 should be 50's, the Gen 2 later 60's but it's more 60's and 80's at the moment. The 991 is madly over, maybe 25K upwards and the GT3 RS 4.0 is crazy. You only have to look at the left had drive values to see how crazy the UK market is right now for GT3's.

Those prices need to stay crazy, whilst they are high, they make my C2S worth a little more. :D

and the rest if you add roughly around my spec its going to be 85/90K ish. Its going to be one hell of a car though. :D

Yeah, I'd be kicking myself if I were you to be honest, but I like my cars to be more geared towards driving/track than road, due to the seat of the pants feeling they give. So if your more focused towards road then GTS with PDK probably suits you better.

Just this GT4 is not a Cayman with a few bits added, its a completely new platform which shares most of the GT3 suspension and what it does not share has being bespoke to this car.

Minimum of 385BHP and sub 7m40 lap time is nothing to be sniffed at, hugely quick and the drive.

HOUSEY BUY ONE, I WANT A GO!!!!!!! :D :D :D

£ 81,550.00

I want one real bad, but I'd rather just for now stick with the Mustang idea, because I can buy it outright and have no debts. I cannot buy an 80k Porsche outright. :(

Maybe in a couple of years!

Mine was yellow, ceramics, clubsport, leather/yellow stitching interior, buckets, PCM blah blah, comes to 79-84k depending on how carried away I get with additional leather bits.

But my gut feeling is this is maybe not a car that one could make a profit on, I mean if it cost 80k in the right spec, surely people won't pay 90-100k second hand as that is 997.2 GT3 money, so am sceptical. I guess they will hold value or any depreciation will be very small certainly in the first 1-2 years, but I can't see them selling for 90-100k second hand, if they do then GT3's will only become even more expensive.

If Porsches keep getting more and more expensive for GT's or well spec'd rarer examples soon they will no longer be the affordable car they once were, the prices are getting forever closer to Ferrari, Turbo S for example, now 160k new!

According to the Porsche website, there is not a single GT3 or GT3 RS outside of the 991 (of which there are 2) available for sale as a used buy. Madness and annoying. At £82K you are in 997 Gen 2 territory and I think on that basis I'd go GT3.

It is the issue, both stunning drives, but this Cayman I reckon would edge it as it has the 991 GT3 parts but has the one thing everyone screamed about, a manual too.

So every day living, can see the GT4 being the better car and suspect it will be more fun on track too as mid-engine cars tend to flatter and invoke some hooligan driving, whereas the 911 is in my opinion the more rewarding car to drive precisely, though when it does let go it feels very natural, but I am to scared to turn the systems completely off and go really mental, have turned them off on track in the wet at low speeds, seemed very progressive car as long as you did not fight it.

This is the thing for me. Yes, I do want to but in reality is going to be more of a road car than track for, so for me I think the GTS is the better choice.

GT4, your getting way more for your money and it's a bespoke limited numbers car with a vastly better engine, GT3 suspension and when it comes to depreciation the GT4 will depreciate far less than a GTS.

Having being in GT3's on the road, they are not harsh, suspension has come along a good deal in last decade, the GT4 will be epic on uk roads, so unless PDK is your deciding factor the GT4 is a vastly superior car.

Both are incredible but one is a run of the mill Cayman with some nice options as default, one is a bespoke limited edition with far more performance and it will hold it's value far better. You only need to look at Cayman R values compared to regular Cayman of same year/mileage, one had depreciated like a brick, the other has held in value.

Question, so my 991 was serviced just just under a year ago when it was 2 years old and around 13 000 miles. Its now close to 20 000 miles but the service will not be due for at least another year.

Should I do one half way between or just not bother? I will only keep the car for around one year.

No if it's not a keeper. If keeping it then change the oil every 6k/1yr. :)

Don't you guys live in the UK?! Spend probably 75% of my time in traffic around these parts!

No traffic where I live and I think your completely missing the point of this car. Regular Cayman PDK seems more suited to your needs otherwise you'd not come out with such a silly comment. :)

I'm number 5 in line. Got 5k down so don't know if I will ever get the car or not.

Think you will, if you decide not, sell your place for a profit to someone on PH, as people have being dropping out on the basis its not special enough having a Carrera engine as they wanted more engine wise and giving their slots to others, no doubt for a slight premium. :)

Do it, but in minimum spec, just add the buckets and try to keep your cost below 70k.

Trust me on used market after 3-6 months ownershop you'd make 5-10k profit as enthusiast will want one and buckets will be essential.

If you go over the top with extras and end up paying 80k area, then you'd probably not lose money but probably would not make any either.

End of the day it offers same performance in a straight line as your 911, but looks more aggressive, will be very rare and if you ever do decide to track it then well its a GT car, immense! Stands to lose you little to no money, maybe a profit, whereas your 911 will continue depreciating.

No I have not, my car has it but I have not driven a 991 without it. However I have a Porsche experience day so I will try both then.

I have a friend coming over today who has a 991 and he said that he did not want the PDCC because it took a bit of the fun out of the car when on the track.

Exactly what I head and I have heard a lot of people say the absolute base spec 991 Carrera with no PDCC, no PTV, manual, smallest wheels possible is the most engaging and fun to drive, but of course won't have the lap times like an all singing 991 C2S with the options will do.

Thats the point, the PDCC car will be faster around the track but some of the entertainment will be gone.

my one has PDCC, Porsche Torque Vectoring, Dynamic engine mounts and PASM.

All of which make a fantastic all round day to day car but probably not the best track weapon.

The 991 is such a massive step forward from the 997 but its much more of a GT car now than a out and out sports cars. I dont think you would be too happy with it but a 997 GTS would probably be better for you.

If we cross paths at some point you are welcome to take it for a spin.

I am quite looking forward to picking up the new Panamera in just over a week, only down side is that between ordering it and now my wife and I split up and it was for her lol. I'm just going to give it to her anyway but not before I take it for a little spin.

Yeah I think the 997 GTS is the best of both worlds, immense on the road and very close to GT3 on the track. :)

Pretty much what my 911 is in all honesty if such a thing existed is equivalent of a GTS as mine has got:
X51 power kit and cooling parts
PASM/Chrono
GT3 front suspension with -2.25 front camber
GT3 front & rear adjustable anti-roll bars
Alcantara gear/steering wheel
Aerokit
Ceramics

On my car adding the GT3 front suspension parts transformed the turn in, but the car is now running a 22mm wider track at the front and the roll bars just got rid of understeer and gave it a lovely neutral and very confident inspiring feel. :)

yes your is a amazing spec and very hard to find.

Have you never considered moving to a Gen 2 car?

I prefer the gen1 to drive and the sound, gen1 has a far better sounding engine/exhaust, gen2 sound poor in comparison and gen1 have more steering feel.

Advantage of gen2 is a more reliable engine and more power, but the claimed mileage figures for the gen2 are BS, when your enjoying the car I found the gen2 no more economic than the gen1, the gen2 is only better on fuel when cruising.

I'd rather a gen2 engine in a gen1 if that makes sense, one thing I will say is the damping on the gen2 cars is far better than the gen2, really noticeable on the road.

Best road car from 911's would be 997.2 GTS (RWD) as a daily and dream car is a 997.2 GT3 RS, have to keep dreaming......

Just a quick reminder to watch TG this evening. ;):D

You should cancel the order mate, it just got battered by an American car, we all know American cars can't go round corners so this new Cayman GTS must be a right kipper if it can't beat a yank tank. :D ;)
