Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

GT4 I think will be the best car Porsche make, will be insanely quick as well probably around sub 4s to 60 and sub 8s to 100 with PDK and the handling will be insanely good.

Any idea on price?

Anyone recommend a good pre purchase inspection company up north?

In fairness, it has a Porsche installed engine with a Porsche warranty. So just take it for 111 inspection, sub £200 cost as that will cover every other aspect.

Seriously that car is insanely cheap, you keep messing around it will be gone, I've already shown it two mates who are very interested as its like over £5000 below going rate.

GET IT PURCHASED!

Calling Gibbo et al, any thoughts on the following car:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...a-997/porsche-911-997-carrera-4s-2006/3189201

Good points:
Facelift lights
Known engine weaknesses sorted by OPC and under warranty.
Cheap

Bad:
Paint issue - can get fixed
Stereo - is this a known issue?

Everything looks good except the steering wheel. Get a plain one?

I don't get you???

It's thousands below where it should be and your worried about steering wheel?

You can buy a Porsche sports steering wheel for like £500 second hand if it's a major issue.

Unfortunately I was second in line - and unsurprisingly the first guy bought it. ..

Shame with cars that are such as bargain as that you just ring straight away and pretty much buy it and then go and collect it. That was a real bargain!

Was no different then when I bought my Mustang, the guy sold it 10k below going rate as he wanted quick sale due to wife wanting it gone, gotta be quick man.

Yep agreed - will keep eyes peeled for more xmas bargains.

Do you not feel suspicious when cars are overly cheap?

Yes but at the same time I call up immediately and get my name down first and then travel up to view. I can still walk away!

People with plenty of money often give a car away for a quick hassle free sale, just be ready to pounce.

I paid top dollar for mine but was happy to it has a great spec and in very rare colour but also absolute perfect condition. I find you have three types of car buyer, bargain hunter which this was, person buying on age, spec, mileage at market price and then customer who knows exactly what they want and will pay to get it.

Agreed- am reading the Hartech buyers guide now so next time I am ready to pounce on a good buy.

Any thought on cabriolets? Are they flexy? Can you get Dectane rear lights for them? (Are yours OEM or Dectane?)

My are Dectanes on rear. Front standard.

With a Porsche you just need a 111 point inspection and boroscope inspection.

Any thoughts on this? Its a high mileage Gen II (so benefits from DFI engine, LEDs and PCM III) and its PDK - want a manual but PDK seems to get good reviews and is a non 'S' which is a shame.

997 Gen II

Anyone know how well the 997 holds its mileage?

DFI engine is more reliable, more frugal and more powerful but does sound crap in comparison to the 997.1 cars, steering feel is also diminished in the 997.2 cars as well. The 996/997.1 were I feel the pinnacle for drivers car for Porsche after that they got so good they became less driver focused if that makes sense, still amazing by all accounts.

It's not a bad price but a 911 with 90k miles, a lot will be worn out, suspension, radiators, coil packs, so it will need a warranty or get an inspection and everything sorted before purchase.

Will be a good car though 345BHP and PDK will be very quick car.

I think anything actually broken would be covered by their warranty - Portiacraft are a bit like RSJ/ Hartech and back their own in house scheme. Point taken on the wear and tear items though.

What do you think a good price would be to get it for?

It's already a good price, most specialist will not lower the price, or they will but they will reduce warranty cover to do so. Maybe offer 27.5k but I suspect they will just tell you pays the price or go shopping elsewhere.

Looks it!

If it's PDK can see it being potentially sub 7:20 ring time and sub 7s 0-100mph which is pretty ridiculous for an NA focused drivers car. If it goes back to roots and manual then maybe a bit slower but can see Porsche sticking with PDK and maybe offering manual as an option for purist.

3.8 NA from C2S

It needs to be, 4 pot turbo's do not belong in Porsches, they really do not!

GT4 is a drivers car, that means turbo no chance!

3.8 NA I agree and they will either release it with 380 or 400BHP and maybe offer the power pack option to make it 430BHP.

430BHP NA in a sorted Cayman would be amazing and silly quick with PDK box and of course the Cayman GT4 will have manual option too so could be the track day favourite especially if the 991 GT3 RS is only being offered to 918 customers.

Thing is maybe GT4 is one of those cars to get pre-ordered if Porsche decide to just make a handful like the Cayman R meaning they could appreciate very fast.

Wonder whether it'll be a lightweight too... Say no more than 1300kg.

It will be 1275-1325kg with minimum options and weight saving options, so ceramics, buckets etc.

It will be incredible as Porsche always feel lighter than they are, so a 1300kg Cayman will feel like a 1100kg regular car. The only car on the market that would be more alive in it for feel would be the new Lotus Exige but the Porsche will absolutely destroy it both road and track without a doubt.

No idea what it is with Lotus, I really love the new Exige but my god why is it so slow, I mean 7:52 ring time, makes no sense to me, it should be much faster considering it is on R-spec tyres, lightweight and lots of power. It is either a handful or the guy who set that time pulled over for a brew.

My GT3 was actually heavier than the C2S of the time. This is due to the GT3 using the C4 body structure I am lead to believe even though it has C2 panels.

Yes, my mate with a 996 GT3 MK2 was unhappy when he corner weighted my C2S and realised it weighed less than his GT3. :D

NICE! :D

I think some of the pistonheads pics had show a view through the window with a PDK gear selected cited.

I couldnt really tell though as that gaitor on the Porsches didnt make it obvious.

I will be honest, I'd be amazed if PDK is not an option because if I was buying one I'd probably chose PDK if honest, it is now finally an auto I like as long as it has the Sports Chrono and PDK Sport Plus option, and for manual I hope they put in the six speed and not the seven speed. :)

Don't like the wheels on that, they kind of look like the nasty 19" that came on the E46 M3 that everyone got shot off either for the 18" or CSL's. :D

They are 20" as they are a option on the Cayman.

I'm not overly solid on the maual gearbox on the Cayman (981), as for me ive found the throw too long. It would be great if they had a short shifter option for them or they had someone who made them but I couldn't find anyone who does. However, thats my personal preference.

Porsche offer an SSK as an option. :)

Any thoughts on this Cayman chaps? It's the only one I've found for this sort of money that has, from what I can tell, the "right" options. I'm guessing Sport Tailpipes doesn't mean Sport Exhaust? That could be a deal breaker.

The extended warranty isn't too bad on these at £1595 for 2 years.

Can't see a PSE button on the console, so guess it just has tailpipes then. :(

They don't on a Cayman (981), trust me I covered all the options before my order was signed, I even asked the chap at Silverstone about it who agreed.

If its six speed, then to my knowledge its the same gearbox as in the 997 Carrera and GT3. If so then the SSK option for those cars should also fit the new Cayman. ;)

Its about £250 to buy from Porsche and then just fit it yourself, dead easy to do from inside the car! :)
