Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

The new shape Boxster S is amazing and I'm putting effort to get in one even though it's out of budget and I'm buying a house with the partner because it's not often a car comes a long that I actually want. At some point the NA cars are going to be worth more than the turbos imo.

I'd really like to try a 981 as well. A Spyder would be the dream, a bit pricey still :p

718 GTS is due later this year which is going to be another 25hp.

The demo car wasn't crazy on the options, 20" wheels, PASM, Nav, fancy dynamic lights, cruise and heated sports seats but was still over £61k.

The 718 Cayman S that I drove when my GT4 was in for service was spectacularly quick. It's as much power as you'd ever really need on the road, and it felt a lot like the 997 turbo did.

It's indicative of modern sports cars and I think it's a shame. Systems and power delivery is now such an easy thing to put on any car all they seem to produce are number crunching sports cars (blame Nissan for starting it) that focus on statistics over driving pleasure. I don't think sports cars have got better, I think they have got much faster, but not better and they have all lost steering feel, braking feel, suspension feel, adjustably and challenge. If it's all you've ever known then you might think it's epic, but when you remember a what old 911's and Boxsters were like, you might find the new ones a bit less appealing, for all their formidable capability on road and track.

Which is precisely why I own a GT4! It at least attempts to retain some of that, with a modern flair.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's why I find the Ferrari 458 an utter let down to drive, and actually much prefer the 360/430/430 Scud as cars to drive, they're far more exciting.

My MP4 was ludicrously quick, and personally I found it more fun than the 458, but still ultimately missing something.

Edit - Additionally, it's why I keep dabbling with Aston Martin too. Sure, they're not technically brilliant in any aspect, but there's a sense of occasion, more than adequate performance, and yet a very pure driving experience.

I'd agree that the GT4 is as close as Porsche gets right now to old school. The current GT3/RS is fantastic, epic in fact, but it's steering isn't as good as it was and the engine though incredible for me has lost something, I know not what however.

For perspective my GT3 was 0-100 in 9.1 I think. These are rapid little cars now.

Mines stated as 10.1 to 0-100, which when you think a GT3 is another £60K/70K isn't too bad. However the 991.2 GTS is around 7.5 from 0-100 which is obscenely quickly

Depending where you are, I'll quite happly demo mine. :)

Mine is 7s flat I believe so even more obscene but having run with a 991 GT3 up to serious speeds in Germany, there was little in it up to 140mph when my extra horses started to show themselves.

Thanks for the offer, I'd be up for that if it's not a logistical ballache. I'm in South London but frequently on the south coast close to Brighton.

Cool, you're not too far away as I Chelmsford, Essex based. I'll see how I am fixed for my work schedule next month and i'll drop you a PM.

Just looked up for my 996 turbo, 8.9 secs. Considering the GTS is only 30 hp more thats a massive difference (I realise its also probably got better traction, aerodynamics pdk etc but still thats a huge improvement in just 15 years.

No idea what my 0-100 is, with launch control and around 630hp it should be a little better than stock. Actually gave it a wash and a little run at the weekend, not used it since last summer :D

Ok so a few weeks into 911 ownership I think I'm noticing a couple of potential faults with the car :( main one being the gearbox, car is a 997.2 Carrera later 09, has just gone 60k today, it had a clutch & flywheel fitted by 9excellence at around 50k 16months ago. I seem to have a little bit of crunching changing from 1st to 2nd, it doesn't happen all the time and it might just be me not hitting the clutch fully but they other changes are fine, all the same I'm a little concerned, I've only got 3 months warranty on the car so going to have to get this checked out for piece of mind only, just wondering if anyone else here with a 997 gen1 or 2 has suffered the same

Could be a synchro. Not heard of that specific problem on these but any manual car can be affected. Is it worse when the gearbox is cold? I have to double declutch mine when changing down to first when cold.
