Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

The coupe has a bit more room in the back than the convertible, although I can imagine doing my back trying to dig a car seat out of there!

The main problem with the 997 interior is that Porsche seriously upped their game with the 991 interior! I find the 997 interior very comfortable and pretty simple. The only thing that could do with freshening up is the AC panel and PCM, but the more I use PCM 2.1 the more I can see myself keeping it and spending the cash on a nice induction kit instead. It's been quite nice putting my CD collection to good use!

The 991 is lovely inside but I think the PCM3.0 of the 997.2 totally transforms the 997, fortunately for me its just a booster that sits there all the time, i'm not exactly a lightweight but could just about get in the back (alone) for a short trip into town if the wife was dropping me off, I remember clearly about 15 years ago sat in the back of a 996 from Newcastle to the NEC and back in a day, took a while to recover...

My roungest is still in a rear facing seat and i can manage to get him out while still in the seat but i can imagine it being tricky if he was bigger. My eldest is not quite booster size but still forward facing. Group 2 i think so that ones easy.

Mine is a 2009 987 gen 2 with the 2.9 flat 6 and PDK gearbox. When looking for a Boxster I specifically went after a gen 2 car as I couldn't stomach the potential engine problems of the gen 1 cars. PDK was also a must for me and as this was only introduced with the gen 2 cars, a gen 1 was never really on the cards.

Whats Gen 2 mean? Facelift? What engines have problems? Does the 3.4 in the Caymen S suffer with any silly problems?

Nice car btw.

Yeah, there was a facelift, new engines, PDK dual-clutch gearbox replaced the old auto and update to the infotainment. 3.4 in the Gen 1 Cayman S has a few issues I believe, new engine in the facelift with direct fuel injection is fairly bulletproof apparently but I've still got a warranty on mine!

2009 was the facelift year for the 997 911 and 987 Boxster/Cayman and brought new DFI (direct fuel injection) engines. PDK was introduced and there were visual facelifts to the lights and bumpers and the interiors/sat nav.

The 3.4 engine from 2006-2008 in Caymans is one of the worst sufferers of bore scoring, more than Boxsters of the same age oddly. You'll see lots of adverts for cars that have had rebuilds. The 3.8 in the 911 is also notorious.

So gen 2 cars, 997.2 and 987.2, are more desireable because they're far less likely to go pop.

mate had a 997.1 4s that went pop that I didn't know about until recently when I mentioned I was getting a 911, fortunately for him Porsche did 50% contribution, but wonder if its a Porsche rebuild its just going to happen again at some point? Hes since sold the car

Had I done a bit more research and heard about the hartech rebuilds i'd probably have gone for a 997.1 and saved a load of cash, having said that I do like the subtle differences of the .2 and will probably be more desirable come resale time, plan is in 3-4 years swap it for a 991 :) all being well of course

Now I've driven the 991.2 Carrera's with varying specification oh my god, what cars they are. The one with PDCC and PASM along with the rest of the option list ticked seemed just insanely capable and more grip than one could ever want, almost to good as it never wanted to play, just grip and more grip.

Really look at 991.1 C2S/C4S now, would just like more power NA which seems to only come in GTS format which are 90k which seems a lot of money for a used Carrrera, same money gets an AMG GTS or a R8 V10 Plus which are super cars by comparison. All three of one have their unique abilities making all three desirable, wished I could just have all three, but dropping even 80-90k on a car is a huge amount of cash and I'd need a good 20-30k on finance.

I'd love to have jumped into a 991 but tbh I've jumped from a 2006 330d sport auto to a late 2009 997.2 Carrera so quite a hike! If I don't get stung and have any horrendous problems with the 997 I'll definitely consider a 991 in a few years, I'm loving the 997 and originally when I started looking was at gen 1's but got scared so upped budget to gen 2's and really wanted a PDK, there was one at my price range but was sold when I called, all the others were a good few k more than I wanted to spend so ended up with a the Carrera, saw a couple of 2s's but had bags more miles on which to me isn't a problem but I kept thinking about resale.

Mines a end Nov 09 registered car, with 59k on it, clutch was replaced along with flywheel at 52k, silver, with 19" alloys, sunroof, bose, electric memory heated seats and cruise think that's about it for the options, had first service at Porsche reading where it was supplied from and one at Porsche leeds, then was done at 9e in Surrey and from what I can tell are pretty respected specialists, still debating on the Porsche warranty at £1900 for 2 years, will cost me £500 at least to get it through, as it doesn't have a Porsche battery on it and they want £300 for that....... anyway off in the morning to get the PZeros fitted and take the winters back to the warehouse to store till the end of the year :)

New tyres fitted and thank god the vibration has gone at motorway speeds so much better :) now another little issue ive found not sure if anyone will have seen or heard of something similar, basically the home light function seems a tad intermittent, set to home on the light switch and sometimes when I lock or unlock the car the front led lights and rear lights plus number plates come on but sometimes they don't, not sure what there supposed to do or not?

Got it today, now I only need a Lacoste shirt to become a professional hairdresser :D

Okay started to look at options for a new car for the missus and one car we have both had on our car bucket list is a 911, with a budget of say £35-40k is this something worth considering? and if so what model/spec would you spend that on?

Any info appreciated. :)

Should be a reasonable selection of the 997 Gen 2 model (2009-12) for that budget, yeah: Carrera or Carrera S (larger engine with 40hp more and sports exhaust/suspension by default I think); 2 or 4WD; manual or PDK dual-clutch auto; coupe, convertible or targa body - lots to choose from depending on your preferences :).
