Finally bit the bullet and have Cayenne (only a diesel model, I do a lot of miles) being delivered at some point this week. They are such lovely cars, so much nicer than an X5 or ML which were the other contenders.

Need to find a good proper local specialist now, West Oxfordshire area, in preparation for the inevitable issues but also servicing etc. Also wondering how it is going to ride on it’s relatively massive 295/35/21 tyres, prepared to “downgrade” the wheels if I have to.

E: We seem fairly well catered for around here, these guys are local enough and their website certainly reads well. If they are happy with vintage Porsche rebuilds I am sure they can handle anything a Cayenne could throw at them;

Yesterday's jobs - Private plate on the 911, the 'essex' limo tints removed and replaced with a light smoke instead, and facelift rear lights on the Cayenne S.

I have a question regarding the auto box vs manual of the 991 4S or 997 Turbo?

Although my BM is auto for fun cars I've tended to go with manual all the way. Seems to me all 991 4S are autos and only a few 997 Turbos are manual.

I've driven a 997 but it was auto. Just wandering whether the auto boxes detract from the 911 experience?
 
There are an awful lot of people that suggest that the tiptronic suits the 997 turbo perfectly.

The 991 and later 997s will have the PDK transmission rather than tiptronic which is excellent by all accounts and has outsold the manual. You will find manual examples of both cars.

You have to ask what it is about the 911 you want to experience. 4WD automatic 911s have been around since the late 80’s.
 
The GTS had its 6 year service at the start of the month, which was around 1100 all in which included the MOT. It only feels like yesterday I picked it up new from the dealer.

That said, I am look for its replacement at the moment so i'll put it up for sale later in the year the OPC still seems very keen to buy the car even after all this time. I guess its one of the very few in the country which has more less every option on it.

The list on my invoice is the following:

MOT £54.85
Intermediate maintenance £227.85
Brack Fluid Change £ 63.55
Drive Belt Reaplacement £124.00
Rear Wall Falp remove and reinstall £65.10
The loads of little bits which total £875.42 excluding VAT
All in it was £1039.53

Then a set of new wiper blades where about 60 odd quid.

Well that's been an interesting afternoon. Been on the phone with a porsche dealer for most of it. Great chap, really helpful. Who says Porsche don't negotiate :D

after speaking at lenght about Cayman 718 and the various models and options.....I may have just placed an order for a guards red 718 spyder :p Not loaded with options (I haven't won the lottery!) but gone for PDK, rear sensors and red seat belts to match the dash. I was in two minds about changing the dash to aluminium, but nah.

That gets me on the waiting list at least, and I've told him I don't want it anytime soon as I have to save up for the monster deposit I'm putting down. The guys at the dealership seem pretty good and flexible about it all.

Beans on toast for this year I think.

Insurance was cheap for me and the mrs (I might actually be old), and been through gap insurance and all the servicing costs. The dealer is paying my first years road tax which is nigh on 2k :rolleyes: which is pretty good of them. Good job it's not that price every year!

The only niggle (well not really) is that they are in Scotland, but I quite like the idea of having a long weekend away. My dad is already making plans to do a whiksey trail as he's coming up with me.

I forgot to ask about trackers as I think I should have one fitted. I'm sure I saw some fitted with a porsche tracker. Appreciate some advice if anyone can help?

Mine was a 1200 quid dealer fitted option (VTS) but is required due to the value of the car with the insurance broker I use.

Thanks, I'll factor it in. Surprisingly my insurance didn't really change between it and my TT-RS. That was with Admiral...and I added the mrs on when I did the quote. She's not on the RS at the minute.
 
Well that was more difficult than I first thought.

Putting my deposit down on the spyder, and yep.....as I thought, can't be guaranteed to get one. Dealer can secure a boxster gts 4.0 and is giving £1,500 of options and free ceramic coating. They said even on a gts 4.0 a discount is unheard of, so done well I think.

at least I'll have an electric roof.

There was one dealer who reckons he could get me one, but I need to call him later today to make sure he's being honest.

I’ve just watched Joe Achilles video on the Cayman 4.0 GTS and it looks & sounds awesome. What I don’t get is why Porsche have set the manual 2nd gear ratio so high. Up to almost 90 mph in 2nd is killing the naturally aspirated fun, unless you’re on a track. Why, what is the point !?!

 
I’ve just watched Joe Achilles video on the Cayman 4.0 GTS and it looks & sounds awesome. What I don’t get is why Porsche have set the manual 2nd gear ratio so high. Up to almost 90 mph in 2nd is killing the naturally aspirated fun, unless you’re on a track. Why, what is the point !?!

Long gears are due to emissions.
