I can get good results by hand, its hard work but oh so worth it in the end.

I think a PC is good if you are going to do other peoples car and actually get some money back.

God OCUK is obsessed with PC's.If its not the hardware, it the anti pc brigade in SC/GD and now in motors, what ever next :p

Hmm, i'm unconvinced of that - most of my cars have been almost new (8 months - 1yr old) and not one has had "good" paintwork that wouldnt benefit from a PC. I also tend to buy dark colours which show swirls up badly, and it seems most cars come out of the factory with swirl marks.

I'd do a panel for you but given as a car can take most of the day to do properly, I wouldn't do all of it unless you paid me hehe :p

There's not much point in buying a PC for a new car if you take good care of the paint with careful washing and regular waxing, unless you are a complete swirlmark pedant.

Likewise, I wouldn't recommend buying a PC if you have a white or silver car - very unrewarding to pc

Very true. The CTR was a mess of swirls when I got it.

There's a guy on SELOC who is just starting a detailing business. This is a pic of a brand new Exige he did the other day. The car was literally straight from the showroom and it looked like this, shocking!!

My brand new ST was far from perfect, when i got it, looked great, but when you ran your hand across the paint you could feel the crap embedded in the paint, clay,stage 2 megs and AG SR and AG EGP sorted it out, im still not convinced it is as shiney as my old Mondeo St, but that was black so when polished up it looked uber great, like most black cars do.

Arent PC's just doing the same job as t-cut?

If you find someone local then send em my way too!! Whats really gutting is i paid someone a few months back to do my car and honestly the results were appauling, i got a better result by hand today and i'm sure with a PC or similar the finish would be superb.
 
best of borrowing one if possible if just going to be used the once more a trial and error on the products you use to get the best out of a pc

What a mess! I'd have rejected it tbh.

I'll wait till my dad gets bored & buys one, then nick it for a bit ;)

The 320i I had was brand new, with 9 miles on the clock. It was swirlmarked :(

Well the PC is a machine and I wouldnt recommend using t cut with it, too harsh and abrasive to use by machine. Meguiars do some good polishes (#83 and #80 will tackle most stuff)
 
How do you avid car washers find this sort of effort works with Silver cars. In my somewhat limited experience of detailing I found my car benefits much less than my wifes car. Mine is Silver and the wifes is Blue so I had put this down to the colour is this a fair assesment?
