Portsmouth given Winding up Order

It's not right that if I suddenly stopped paying my taxes, I'd be hounded by the taxman as a criminal and be thrown in court where I'd be fined and ordered to pay my taxes a.s.a.p, whereas a football club can go into voluntary adminstration when they owe over £10m to the taxman to avoid paying it. The laws need to be changed.

I saw the news this morning about this, and they said basically the reason that the tax man is taking them into court is because they arent happy about being put to the bottom of the pile when it comes to the money being dished out due to them putting themselves into administration, as the creditors come first. Well something like that.

Yep in cases like this HMRC always comes last.

Apparently just been confirmed that even if Pompey win the FA Cup they won't be allowed into Europe with the associated revenue that would bring due to failing to file accounts with UEFA.

It's like watching an incredibly slow-motion car crash :p

*edit*

Chester City have just been wound up

Moral of story - don't *&^% with HMRC :p

I'm guessing it's because their move into administration is being challenged, as HMRC are still trying to get them wound up?

Yep in cases like this HMRC always comes last.

HMRC don't come last they get lumped in with all the bottom group of debts, football clubs must first pay any football related debt. It is this preferencial treatment that HMRC disagree with a rightly so allthough they have only really started chasing clubs since they themselves lost the status of prefered creditors and had to sctratch around in the bottom of the barell with everyone else.

The Premier leage are managing to come out of this looking like a total bunch of mugs, they allowed Pompey to sign players on free's and loans in January when it was obvious they had no money to pay them and now they are doing everything possible to protect the brand rather than see the terrible financial practices of one of there members punished.

Personally I'm glad HMRC are playing hard ball as it appears nobody else has the balls to take these people to task for business practices that defy belief.

Well I'm not sure what's happening now, but HMRC have dropped their challenge.

Thats just HMRC withdrawing their challenge that Pompey should be wound up instead of put into administration. With that out of the way it means that the administration can continue properly now, would expect to see the 9 points deducted in the next couple of days before the weekend (or to take effect just after the weekend).

Lol. Worst ever PL points record?

who the hell does the administrator think he is?

However, the club's administrator Andrew Andronikou has previously said that the penalty could be challenged, saying: "Yes, it is a Premier League rule but that rule has never been tested, and that's what I will do."

"The fans should not be victims in this scenario," the Israeli said. "Of course, we should not be docked nine points. All my life I have been fighting for justice and in the interests of fair play, we need football to be decided on the field.

"Maybe someone, somewhere, will think about the fans, who have done nothing wrong."

Maybe the club should think about the cockup they have made. Its not as if the fans are getting punnished. They would be getting punnished if the club nolonger existed, but heck, that isnt the case.

I don't get this terrible "football should be decided on the pitch" line that Andronikou and Grant keep wheeling out. Yes it should be decided on the pitch, but it should be decided by eleven men your club can afford to buy and pay, not a bunch of over-talented mercenaries you've spent way over your means to get.

Peter Storrie

People have got to appreicate that I'm the chief executive of this club. I am an employee, I am not the owner and it's the owners that makes the decisions and runs the club. At the end of the day I'm simply an emloyee of the club and only carry out the instructions of the owner.

Oh, al-Faraj he doens't like publicity, He'll let me run the club day to day.

Love it :D

When Peter Crouch and Sol Campbell expressed concerns about the financies of the club.

Sometimes they just don't understand, they make these silly statements.

The Club is not going in to administation.

When he left the club.

It is an extremely sad day for everyone connected with this club.

HA :D

Good riddance to be honest.

Portsmouth are now allowed to transfer players outside of the transfer window.

Any players sold will be loaned back to Portsmouth for the rest of the season.

Can't say I agree with allowing them to do this.

I don't think that sold players are allowed to play for another other side in the Premiership for the remianing part of the season .. but I may be wrong!

Wonders if David James will end up a Spurs player before the season is out.

They're not. So I can't say I'd be keen stumping up millions on a player only to immediately loan them back where they risk injury playing for Portsmouth.
