I'm not :D

Upcoming card: probably late Jan/Feb, but maybe announced last minute before Xmas

28nm.
GDDR 5 memory
Air Cooling.
3328+ Shaders.

Autumn/winter 2015/16 Cards:

not 28nm
HBM.
Air cooling. (Except Dual card)
4000+ Shaders.

Haha good for you, noticed you played it safe with 'Not 28nm' ;)

Well played.

:( bit disappointing really short term wise as I want something new now!! But like iv said before untill one gpu is etleast the same speed as a 295x2 I won't be upgrading. It's not worth it for me yet. I hope amd are ahead of schedule and get 16-14nm out mid next year or something crazy like they have pulled off a few times before!

Nice find boom, I can only assume that when they say "will be made using 20nm" that pretty much counts out any surprise 20nm products early on.:(

Anton Shilov is almost as bad as WCCF. When I saw that 20nm bit tacked on I knew Boom would post it as "proof" there's still hope.

It's just bad journalism, not checking facts, outdated info, that's all.

Interesting thing that Gibbo just said in the MSI Lightning pre order thread and I'm not suggesting that Gibbo is in the know or any such thing.

Best 290X on the market, the only card which rivals the Lightning is the Vapor-X and you could argue the PCS+ is a good card, but at this price this card is hands down winner!

Bear in mind, this is a spot buy, MSI just sold me their inventory to get clear, we've pre-sold 20 already so we might be taking them off-sale soon as we only got 164pc coming in.

MSi clearing stock, could be for new stuff incoming soonish....?

I'm probably just reading too much into an innocent comment, but hey on this forum anything can be news right. :D:p:D

If other start having a stock clear-out then something might be going on.

I don't know if this is purely assumption but it stands to reason that Apple would jump on any new node. This probably means that 16nm is safe from them.

it doesn't, most people think A9 will be Samsung/GloFo and A9X or an A10 will probably be TSMC again. Apple just plan to go around stealing everyones fresh nodes and ruin them for gamers everywhere.

This could lead to a huge advantage for AMD making gpu's at Glofo, they might be the only less capacity constrained company to make stuff on new nodes. Or at least with Samsung and GloFo ramping up through 14nm there is more likely to be some extra capacity at those two fabs than at TSMC.

yes, Fudzilla is literally retarded, basically all 20nm equipment is being used for 16nm, as I hear it they needed to buy about 10% more equipment on top of the 20nm node requirements to get finfet working for I presume 1-2 extra stages. 16nm is built right on top of 20nm, there was absolutely no getting around making that 20nm node. The only difference is GloFo/Samsung don't look like they'll do a full production run at 20nm while TSMC have done, meaning TSMC were at 20nm 6 months before Samsung started volume production of 14nm, but that also put them 6 months behind with their 16nm.

TSMC didn't make 20nm for anyone, it's an integral step, the entire cost of the equipment would be made back if they actually did any products at 20nm or all of them at 16nm. Their story only works if it costs X billions to kit out for 20nm and 16nm is done on entirely different equipment.

TSMC have some advantages in that before going finfet they got some experience with planar + double patterning. As it's a little easier than finfet you can effectively ramp up under an easier process with less variables. As in if there is something wrong at 20nm it's more familiar being planar, if they had the same problem with chips at 16nm with finfets it might be less clear how to fix/work around the problem.

It's like Intel with tick/tock, new node with similar chips to before, then new type of chip on a node you now have a little experience with.

So... if I'm reading this thread right, the card coming (rumoured) in Feb is a Hawaii update - 28nm, no HBM, more cores, and a few improvements from the 285? And will this be the 380x or the 290.5 or something?

Then in June/July/2H 2015 the proper new gen from AMD arrives? With all the HBM goodness but probably still 28nm?

So... if I'm reading this thread right

The best way to read this thread is with a pinch of salt.:D

It is just speculation piled on speculation piled on yet more speculation.

About the only thing we do know for fact is that AMD are due for a high end GPU release as it is over a year since the 290X.

My wallet is ready :D two 390s 1440p 144hz display all before May?

That sounds like the sweet spot performance wise, I got COD AW this weekend and at 1080p it destroys my 290x forcing me to turn more than a few settings down, I'm looking at a free-sync 21:9 monitor (2560 x 1080) in the new year and that'll probably need a pair of 390x's to run comfortably. I would go with the next Nvidia release (fat maxwell) but to do a pair of those with g-sync I imagine the cost will be considerably more than this option.
