The thing is a lot of people will be getting what ever is made on the next shrink as it will give HBM2 and a large performance boost from 28nm, even if it is 12 months plus away, so I don't see this gen cards lasting that long really.

Indeed. I am waiting for pascal/next gen. I think Pascal will give a huge performance increase as it will be on a 14 or 16nm process with HBM2 etc.

Ouch!

That matched other reports.

Yes AMD and partners has Fury demo behind closed door, selected people and press had to signed NDA have to see Fury running demos and benchmarks, Fury struggled to outperformed 980 Ti. It would be embarrassed if Fury performance slower than 390X in most benchamarks when we see reviews in 2 weeks.

Where did you get that part from?

14/16nm wont give a huge performance boost.
dx12 will however.

While the 28nm has matured the 14/16nm havent and will have issues going bigger dies. we might face delays in a way the field havent seen before and what do you do then?

Thanks for that kitguru link, interesting wee article.

I really really want AMDs new flagship card, whatever they call it, to be brilliant. Faster than the Titan X. We need the competition as consumers. I've just got a nagging doubt now that it's just not going to be that special, at all.

Problem is 4gb is more or less confirmed but ppl taking tht as only wht is commimg 8gb of Hbm has been teased in not so much but in words and still is likley to come but dismiss it as ever happening. Worst come to worst they could put some 4gb of gddr 5 on there possibly? Who knpws but I still think 8gb will come later. Probs before the dual gpu card

If the performance is any good (give or take 10% of Ti/TX) the 8GB should be something to look out for. AMD are going to have to do something special on the price though. Nvidia have everything covered at 549.99 for the GTX980Ti.

Well with ~1.5 of everything in the chip over hawaii, it would be really surprising to not see at least 40% performance over the 290X..and that is TX territory

I want to game at 1440p on a single card at high to ultra settings. The Witcher 3, GTA V, Fallout 4 whenever it comes along. I'm probably asking for a bit too much but there we are.

Basically, my choices as I see it are a GTX 980 Ti or whatever the hell AMD are announcing on the 16th - I see no reason to consider the Titan for my needs given the cost. Seeing as how I've not had an Nvidia card for many years and I've had no particular issues with my AMD cards over the years, I'd prefer to stay with AMD and give them my business - we need competition.

If (we don't know yet) the Radeon card is only 4GB (could be an issue in some games at 1440p?), runs hotter and uses more power, I think they're asking me to make too many concessions. Obviously price is a factor but I'm happy to pay for a 980 Ti - if the Radeon card is £100 cheaper but has the issues mentioned, it is hard to see it as a strong alternative to a 980 Ti for my needs. Performance is will of course be a factor but I'm not yet convinced there will be a big difference.

Or am I wrong? :D

That is exactly how i;m feeling, though I care not at all which brand I go with. But requirements are the same. I will wait for the 16th to choose, but at this point I think it's likely i'm going to end up with a 980Ti. Like you say, there seems to be a fair few concessions with the Fury right now. I hope i'm wrong and it;s an awesome card.

So far we only know that there will be a 8GB version, they told us it will use about the same power as a 290X (so about the same as a 980Ti), and with the AIO cooler its almost certain that it will have better temps than the 980ti.
