I agree. I have a self-imposed £250 limit on graphics cards.

I've managed to subvert it so far by getting a couple of bargain 290Xs 2nd hand.

That's great but doesn't really cover new releases. They are prices on year and a half old cards that have had over 50% price cuts to prolong sales.

290x was £450 on release. Both of your limits wouldn't apply then either.

My point is more that the 390x's price on release is irrelevant for you and the 390x. You are not the target audience yet as you are not OK with paying top release prices of any generation and you have dual cards from the previous generation.

Saying the potential price of the 390x is putting you off is nonsense, you arnt in the market anyway.

I am not sure what I am going to do, I was hoping to skip the next round of cards and wait for a die shrink and HBM card but I am not sure how long my current cards will last before having VRAM issues on most titles @ 2160p?

Ah, misunderstanding then, so that's cool. :)

I should very much be the target audience for this graphics card, as an IT enthusiast with a reasonable disposable income and a soft spot for AMD.

I want a 390 myself, but get the feeling I may just get a pair of 290's to keep me happy until 16nm is out. That way if I do get £500+ GPU it will last a few years. I just can't stand depreciation. Lol. Say the 390x WCE is £600 on release, 12 months later it will be worth £250 or less on members market. Lol

Was just thinking 16nm stuff should be around for the time Star Citizen is released, will splash big then, 16nm should bring a big jump in performance :)

Fair enough. Its not often new gen single cards outperform heavily discounted old gen dual cards in price performance though. I'd suggest the target is people unhappy with the green teams performance at the price points or higher resolution users or people on the 79xx series looking for an upgrade or people sick of multicard solutions and their disadvantages.

While I don't disagree that a card with near titan performance could reasonably be priced at about 600 quid, I won't be buying it if it's that much. I just can't justify spending that much. 400 is about as much as I would spend. I got my xfire 290s for that, so a single card is going to have to really impress me to get that kind of money out of me. Might be a while before I see it at that price though!

The 390X will be the successor for the 290X so I don't expect it to be priced higher than a TitanX. The 290X was promoted as a Titan killer when released and was about the same performance as the original Titan for a much cheaper price of £450.

I think prices of around £500-£600 will be seen especially with the retailer price gouging.

To be fair, with DX12 rolling out this year and possibly starting to see games end of the year and next year, current cards like 290's will get a new lease of life, i really want the 390X and i really want it to be good, but if its not im happy to just add another 290 and sit on them til the next die shrink, and just upgrade other parts of my PC for now.

That's what I'm expecting to see. I think I just resent paying that much for a gpu. I remember when the 5xxx cards came out with amazing leaps in performance, and none of them were close to the prices we see these days. It's different for dual gpu cards, but a single gpu card just seems nuts when older gen cards will offer better performance in xfire at a lower price. I would expect to pay 600 - 700 for dual gpu not single.

I guess it all depends on what they are like when they turn up though. I may change my tune! God knows I'm sick of xfire problems.

Oh right still stuck on 28nm that's a shame if true.

I thought the 390X was the special chip with the newer process, I know all the other '3' series are 28nm.

Nah, very unlikely as I understand it. If it was I would imagine it would beat the titan x easily.
