stock cooler is back on, just have to get used to the noise, but at least it's not a rattly fan noise

lets hope the 390X WCE is out soon ;);)

it was a worthwhile experiment i suppose and if i get a good price for the card i'll be happy

i think i'll return it to stock and sell it either straight away or when the 390X comes out......... i may as well do it this afternoon and see if i can get used to it making a noise again.

i always game with the case side off and right now it looks like an Electrical generator in there, i dont think Arctic could've made an uglier looking heatsink if they tried, it's ok underneath, it's the Backplate that looks pants.

You crazy bro :p

Stop messing with the thing and enjoy it until something better comes along, then get it on MM and move on.

If they're announcing it at Computex 2nd June then I suppose mid-June launch (based on Hawaii announce -> launch)

Maybe they will announce the announcement mid-May as they are known to do.

Yup either Computex Taipei at the start of June or E3 Los Angeles in the middle of June.

Of course it will probably be neither but some obscure date and an event in Fiji.

yea Titan X will give me about 2 months gaming.......maybe more !!!!!!!!!!!

but i've re- modded the huge Air cooler just now and i've got some passive heat sinks for it, just in case ;)

i might keep Titan X and buy the 390X anyway..... not sure, because i've still got the 970SLI too, i'm a Hoarder i'm not very good at selling stuff

lets not forget that with the Arctic cooler that it's dead quiet and a monster Overclocker, so if the 390X isn't quite as good as we hope i can always re-fit the Artic

Yeah everyone's different, no right way of doing it. I prefer to get rid of my stuff as soon as I upgrade to fund towards the next thing.

Plan on using Titan X until another card can match / beat the performance @ 1440P for a lower price, hopefully lower power consumption / heat & noise as well.

Titan X has raised the bar, but it's damn expensive. I imagine the next X80 card will be in line with TX performance so hopefully I won't need to spend so much next time. Right now though Titan X is best card for 1440P, so a necessary evil :p

i'm getting used to its noise now and it does look far better in Stock condition.

it's not the price that's wrong with TX, it's the reference cooler, it looks good but just isn't big enough to dissipate all that heat, they've got around it by designing a really good cylindrical fan, that makes a constant wooshing noise rather than a cheap and nasty rattle........the key is to try and keep it at about 55%

AMD working on a novel form of cooling with the 390X

AMD Scientist Hans Zarkov has gone on record as saying -

"In the past we have gone about things the wrong way round with our cooling solutions and put all our efforts into removing the heat via an air or water based system. What we are testing at the moment is a new system where the heat is actually contained in a very small area approximately 25mm above the card where it will disappear over an event horizon never to be seen again."

There are a few bugs that the scientists have still to iron out but we do have a pic of the prototype cooler working and hopefully the tech guys can make the version that goes on the 390X slightly smaller without any loss of efficiency.

Hopefully the results should be stellar.:)

Every time I see there's a reply to this thread I get a little excited, only to have my hope dashed upon entering the thread.

Good Flash Gordon reference btw, Kaap.

"disappear over an event horizon never to be seen again"

That's the kind of marketing we want to see :D

If that doesn't tickle your marketing buzz word fetish I don't know what will.
