BMW Extended Warranty went from being the best in the business to the worst. A warranty for a BMW M3 with 60k+ miles will cost £1800 a year, exclude half the car, and have a £250 per claim excess.

No, I'm not joking.

ROFL you sure?

sounds like a joke to me

serious thats a shocking service

they had his pants down, I was offered more than that recently for my coupe , 03 (52) with 37k

Sadly he was not buying with his head. He only went in to 'look' at a SL500. 2 hours later he'd bought a SL55 AMG........

Yup tis true, one of the reasons my dad chopped his in when it ran out of warranty.

e46 M3 for that money would be LHD and Cat D, very early and very high mileage.

From what I recall they claimed you could get an early one (X reg?) for £10k. It seemed a bit far fetched to me too considering I was looking at M3's myself just a month or so back and didn't find any for anything like that sort of money.

It's yet another stupid scam. You can spot them a mile off becuase of the low price and the fact at least half the ad will always look like it has been copy and pasted directly off Ebay.

The BMW warranty on the M3 is a joke over 60K. It costs way to much, has an excess, and has more exclusions than below 60K I believe. Some of the earlier E46 M3's are very tired too, and I can see some big bills on the horizon for some people if they do not buy with care. You still have the running costs of a £40K (or in modern terms £50K) car even if you only pay £15K for one.

I used the Warranty on my first car at around 40K when the Vanos failed, that was a £2200 repair, but covered by my warranty in full. I also used it for a number of little problems, such as broken bits of suspension, electronics glitches and other annoyances, though none major and all paid for. I bought both mine brand new, so imagine a car with 60K - 70K on the clock, you are likely to get into new clutches, new brakes, new diffs (or many if you are a drift nutter like someone I know ;)) and maybe even major engine work, which will cost big.

To be fair bm3w (or mtorque) is not littered with horror stories, so I think the E46 is a solid car, but as they get older the bills are likely to get bigger, and with a highly tuned sports saloon they can get very big if you are unlucky, making that £15k bargin a bit of a nightmare.

Buy with more care than you would a £15K hot hatch is all I say.

It's nearly two megs :o

I wouldn't actually mind an E46 M3 as my next car... but there's something about the image of them, I can see them going the way of earlier 3 series and being driven by baseball cap wearing ****** very soon.

I'd say they have a year or so left in them till they start to lose their 'cool' status and enter Impreza 'kev' territory.

I think you are a year late for some of us early adopters ;)

Actually, when you contribute to a website forum for a specific car such as BM3W for so long, it really is fascinating to watch how a demographic changes as the car gets older. Back in the olden days, the talk was all about engine issues, how it all worked, where to get one quickly and the best options to go for. Now it’s all about lowered suspension, 20" wheels, pipes and different lights. Fact is I am just an old git.

Just check the servicing costs before you take the leap, not cheap at all. Also a warranty, 3rd party will do it, is a must. Anything big goies wrong and your looking at a 3-5k bill minimum.
