Post your bikes thread

theres the best lesson for all bikers no matter how long your experience, read that post over and over and think just how little control you have for what some other plank will do on the road, sobering thought indeed.

Keep it safe fellers :)

im afraid i can only agree woth you then, at least i was the only one hurt, lesson has been lernt

and btw, knox back protecters 10/10 saved me from wheel chair

Always wear mine too! felt weird the other day just going 1/4 mile down the road to petrol station just wearing jacket gloves and lid, will be wearing it even that distance from now on :p

Niiice! new or old shape? theyre gorgeous bikes! stopped making them now though :( was a choice between one of them or my 750 when I was looking.

The old shape (not the very oldest though). It's the 'R' version with full ohlins suspension, ohlins steering damper and lightened Oz wheels (+ a bit of carbon fibre here and there). Funnily enough, it was beween that and a GSXR750 for me too :D . Saw this at a bargain price though and just fell in love with it (plus I'm used to twins and it felt a bit more comfortable size wise!).

Draeger, cheers I will keep that in mind :) .

Edit: with regards to back protectors, I bought one (Forcefield Pro L2 or something like that, won a RiDE magazine test) but I've probably only worn it about twice :( . I'm so lazy with putting it on even though I know I REALLY should.

You really should make the effort, you never know….

Since my accident, I wont ever go out without the proper kit on, in fact, I have even purchased a set of forcefield pro pants to go under my leathers; some nice extra armour and they act as a base layer too.

Your accident is very sobering Alexdaredevilz, glad you’re still here to tell the tale though!

Scort.

I know I should! I always wear my full leathers, gloves and boots, but back protector is something else I need to keep putting on.

That's why I went with a knox stowaway, it's less protective but it's easier to store and transport and generally live with... A less protective one is still better than the best out there (which is what you have incidentally!) if it's in the cupboard while you're in the ICU ;)

While we're doing the gear-nazi thing, lets talk about hip armour... I burst my hip 3 years ago after falling on ice while walking, while wearing my motorbike gear. If I'd had hip armour instead of just knee, elbow, shoulder and spine, i'd not even have bruised. Loads of people have bike gear with empty pockets for hip armour- most hein gericke, frank thomas and teknics kit is like this- and I can't recommend too highly that you fill those empty pockets, or replace the wee bits of "comfort foam".

You'd probably not buy a bike jacket without shoulder armour, but hips are the bit you land on when you crash more often than any other part other than hands and knees, and it's a complex, essential, weight bearing joint too. It's really just through luck and the skills of my world-class surgeons that I can still ride a bike, and all preventable with £20 worth of Mr Knox's foamy goodness ;)

Public safety notice is over :D

My latest addition is because while I loved the XR250R (just in shot to the left of pic, now sold), I couldn't get my mates into green laning, so I've got my self a cross-bred for taking on shorter ride outs on twistier roads :D

Nice Bike! Glad to see more additions to this thread :)

One thing though, and I simply hate to sound like a "killjoy" but guys, if you are breaking out yer steed for the coming warmer weather, please take it easy and build up your skill level back to where you left it last time for this seasons riding. If you have had a winter layoff, dont think you can simply jump back onboard and be back where you were last July as far as ability goes. Everyone takes a wee while to get back into it again.

Very true mate. I actually ride all year round, just give the bike a real good clean when spring arrives to remove all the crud.

To be honest in many ways I prefer nice sunny winter days as theres less traffic on the popular biking roads! I was out last week and its amazing how rusty some people look after a winter layoff.

What year is the Mille your getting, St0rmer?.

Get yerself over to http://www.bikersoracle.com/rsv/forum/ mate, loads of good info there and a decent bunch of riders too.

Also, the AF1 forums are very good, especially for technical questions :-

http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/

Both forums have been reasonably quiet of late what with the time of year etc, but they are slowly beginning to stir up with the warmer weather coming. ;)

It's a 2002 bike on a 51 plate.

Thanks for the links, should be very useful :) .

Hmm.. wonder how much a twin can set up would cost me? :p .

Hmm.. wonder how much a twin can set up would cost me? :p .

The twin can setups still command high prices, even on the second hand market.

For a system similar to my own twin high mount Renegades, your looking at the thick end of £400 inclusive and that's the price on the used market.

I managed to blag mine on good auld eBay for £200, the seller had just bought a Duc 1098 and had chopped his RSV in as a trade in on it but returned it back to factory standard so he just wanted rid of the Rene's. Luckily for me he stuck it up on fleaBay as a "Buy it Now" at £200 and I snapped it up within minutes of him listing it.

So yeah, around £400 for a 2 into 1 into 2 system like the Renegades. For a "true" twin zorst set up that is a 2-2 system your looking at £600-£1000 depending on the make. Akrapovics and Arrow systems are highly regarded and as such, highly sought after.

There's very little difference in sound between a 2-1-2 system and a 2-2 system. Mate of mine who posts over at the Oracle forums has an Edwards replica with the twin Akra SBK's on and it sounds sweet and very similar to mine ( with the baffles removed, I've never used 'em yet...lol...!! ). They are loud but not harsh and obtrusive sounding like some single race cans are. A very deep bassy rumble comes out and when revving and pressing on while riding the noise is simply sublime.

You will also want an aftermarket chip if you go for a non standard exhaust. If the bike in that image is the bike you are actually getting it looks like its got an Aprilia Ti race can on it already. Make sure you ask if the standard can is also available just in case come MoT time you have any issues.

If it's got a Ti can on it chances are it will have a Ti chip to match. It's easy to check, just open the ECU under the seat up and it will be apparent straight away. I would imagine your Mille will already have all the derestriction mods done to it too but it's worth checking anyway as a tiny percentage of owners didn't even realise the RSV came from the factory restriced!!.

If you need an aftermarket chip there's a guy over on the AF1 forums who sells them. He is called Gabro and he manufactures them himself. They are regarded as THE best ECU chips for the engine bar none and he does them for AF1 members at a very good price.

Be warned, owning a Mille is one big slippery slope as far as buying aftermarket goodies goes, more so than any other bike I've owned for some reason!!.

Anyway, post up pics when you get her home and I'll see you over on the Oracle forums and AF1. ;)

You seem to know a lot about these bikes Draeger :D .

Probably won't bother if it's going to cost that much, but I may keep a look out on ebay every now and then.

Yes, the bike in the pic is the exact one I'm getting. I'll check for the chip as soon as I get it home. No idea what can it is, didn't have many markings on but it was bloody loud! :p . Comes with the standard can as well :) . Will there be a "standard" chip for the standard can as well?

Here is a bit of a retro one for you guys. Just finished rebuilding my friends FZR600 Genesis. The thing was a mess, it wouldnt start, brakes seized, exhaust rusted to pieces, bits hanging off and paint peeling everywhere. A full stainless system and a lot of TLC later.

FZR6001024x768.jpg

Goes suprising well now, still has a peach of an engine for a 600. Comfy as hell too.
