Post your bikes thread

It’s quite hard to explain how to get knee down, but from the 5-6 months of trying on the Ninja and the last 2 on the R1, I’ve learnt it’s mainly about body position than the lean of the bike – my Ninja still had about 2-3mm of strip left but I got my knee down.

As I approach a right-hander, I do the following:

Shift my bum so that the edge of the seat is in my crack (sorry for the description :p).

Reposition my right foot so that it’s just my toes on the peg, but angle my foot so the heel is in towards the heel plate.

Initiate the turn with a quick prod of the right grip.

As the bike leans over I then move my upper body down and out towards the right mirror, as if I’m trying to look around it, but making sure my right arm is pushing out (as this prevented me getting down).

That should do it for body position, it’s now down to seed (for me), but all the time my left leg is maintaining several grip points – the peg with my foot, the heel plate with the heel of my boot and the tank with my knee.

Scort.

It has:

Ohlins suspension front and rear
Ohlins steering damper
Lightened 'Oz' wheels
Aprilia titanium race can
Power commander III + remap
Full service history
17k miles (just, thanks to my ride yesterday)

Price... £2740!

It's not perfect cosmetically, but mechanically it seems to be totally sweet. Rear shock was serviced as part of the price, fresh MOT and a new battery. Insurance was a reasonable (for my age) £477 for the year.

Love the power on this thing, feels like it'll rip your arms out of their sockets :D .

Took a mate on the back (no grab rail so it's a good thing we've been mates a long time :o ) and it kept trying to power wheelie and I had the front shaking it's head slightly overtaking cars a couple of times :D . Was glad of the steering damper at that point!

It handles better with a pillion than my SV did when I was solo.. so it's a massive thumbs up. Despite it looking like a very big and heavy bike (which it isn't at all, 183kg dry weight), it's actually VERY agile and genuinely feels like it wants to turn. It actually felt a bit alien to me at first and I found myself tipping it in too far and having to stand it back up again half way round a corner! :p . Despite the excellent handling, it's actually very comfortable on bumpy roads too, the suspension is firm enough that it holds a line "like it's on rails" but soft enough that you barely notice imperfections in the road :) .

The gearbox is lovely and smooth, apart from finding neutral seems to be an acquired skill (getting the hang of it now already). Clutch-less up-shifts are no problem and I've not had any false neutrals. It has a slipper clutch so down changes are very smooth (I blip the throttle anyway though out of habit and to hear the lovely exhaust note ;) ).

Can't wait to put some more miles on it :D .

Shushh......Don't tell everyone or they will all want one. :p

You have a cracking deal for the money there, inc a Ti can and a PCIII. Nice purchase m8.

Mille's to this day still outhandle a lot of supposedly "cutting edge" bikes. I think it has something to do with the way they put the power down through the rear wheel coupled with the perfect balance that Aprilia managed to achieve with 'em. :D

Enjoy the ride on her, take some time to get used to it and stay safe m8.

Oh and if you think she is quick just now, just wait till you go 16/44 with the gearing. Feels like someone has bolted on another 30bhp.....no kidding!!!.

ta for tips, I got suspension setup by racelab for my weight so should be ok, though I'm down a little fork oil as I popped a seal over winter and done a quick fix to stop seal weaping.

it's me though I'm sure, had a few highsides in past and it just makes me picture the bike sliding as soon as I enter corner / roundabout...

might have to find a quiet roundabout and do a few laps one night to get confidence back

yeh I used to love playing on a great set of roundabouts in a figure of 8 near me on a sunday evening, no traffic, warm evenings, sparking sliders :D

Looks like abnormal wear on that rear tyre :p got your suspension setup?

I had something similar last year, got my suspension setup at a TD and ended up going much faster and the wear ended up looking like your front on the rear.

yeh, think what your seeing is the dual compound tyres. had full factory Kayaba fork internals and nice WP race shock on the rear, all setup by KAIS nearby.

There's a severe lack of full-dress touring bikes here. I'll be the first.

Ah yea think thatd be it :p
Nice! I need to get my WP shock redone and want internals done too, think I will send them all to K-Teck or KAIS this winter.

Nice, did you all arrive at campsite on the bike :D

looks great condition for a 20yr old bike btw

Picked her up about 4 o'clock, got home about 7:30 after a little ride :D Absolutely brilliant bike got a lot of go in her. Got upto 120mph with out realising. Only problems so far are the clutch made my wrist hurt, not sure if thats from when I broke it or it needs adjusting. Feels really hard to pull. Also the screen is useless even ducking down my heads in the air stream :( When I can afford it I'll get a new screen. Sitting in the back garden the wind keeps setting the alarm off

Heres some pics for ya guys :D
