Awesome 1098's, both ICEMAN and Duc999. I'd happily lick them till the cows came home.....lol.
@ICEMAN, can you give us a brief "How it goes" type few paragraphs on the HP2?. Not heard a lot about how they ride on the road ( in real world conditions at least ).
Sorry for the delay in my response, I've been traveling back to the UK again from my home in the US.
I spent a bit of time on the Hp2 this week - it's certainly an impressive machine but not without its nuances. First thing you notice is that at start/idle the engine sounds like a sewing machine, you have to truly believe that *is* actually fast

. It doesn't like revs much below 2.5-3k, you need at least that if not more to even pull away.
First thing I noticed when going was that its almost telepathically linked to your brain, if I even considered a change of direction it would move before I'd even made the motions, my Dad who was following me on the 1098R was laughing as I was changing lines constantly mid corner for the first couple of miles! As I got used to it though, I loved the handling, its confidence inspiring, the telelever system is *amazing*, there's no dive or bounce when releasing the brakes upon entering a corner and the ABS system gets you out of trouble if you overcook it into a corner.
I said earlier that at idle it sounded a little weird, well rest assured when you get it going... it's something else. Being a boxer engine it has a very distinct sound and of course, should you make the mistake of blipping the throttle on a downshift, the whole bike will shudder side to side! It sounds as though the engine needs to be upshifted when you hit about 5k but then you realise there's another 4.5k still to go. At about 6k it goes wild, feels more like the powerband on the 1098R, just hold on and enjoy the noise. However for the best sensation of speed, just use the quickshifter and shift through the gears a little early, it's SO addictive! The engine sounds mean after 3.5k with huge popping and banging on every overrun, makes you smile every time you back off the throttle.
Overall its one of the very best bikes I've ever ridden, I'm by no means a crazy rider, I'd consider myself quite amateur in comparison to my illustrious car history

but I'm very impressed with it. Once you get used to the very direct handling characteristics it becomes a very easy bike to ride, not the most comfy in the world but a huge amount of fun and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Lets not forget the whole thing is made from carbon fibre too....
Now if you want a write up on the 1098R, you'll have to give me a day to recover, that's a truly terrifying machine, ours is over 200bhp at the crank
