Post your bikes thread

before you buy a new batt just put a meter on the batt terminals while engine running to check charging voltage, guess it should be in mid 13v to 14v at 4k rpm or so, when engine off you should be reading mid 12s

as it's an old bike could well be the battery though...

bike looks mean as.. :)

they stopped making most of the 400s years ago.. looking it up the ZXR ran from '89 and was discontinued in '99

it's a real shame, maybe the laws in japan that spawned the 400cc market changed

It is a huge shame, they were brilliant little bikes. I always wanted a NC30 (VFR400), but couldn't justify sending so much on such an old bike now :(

Its M Reg.. 1995 methinks. Thanks for the advice flukester will do that unless they have done it at the service and decided it needs a new one. Im desperate to ride it!

Edit; Being mostly clueless about bikes, anyone got any advice where to start reading to learn about them? Would like to be able to a bit more servicing myself rather than just adjust the scottoiler and chain etc thanks

400's wer popular as in Japan you have to be able to pick your bike up to pass your test on it.

ZXR400H ran 88 (I think) to 91
ZXR 400L ran from 91 - 2001 and ive seen sme 52 plate late registers. I had a 1999 one.

made a discovery today for shining the old bike, autoglym instant bike shine spray... comes in areosol and just a little squirt and bike looks like new.

some dude lent me it, I'm a convert, plus it smells nice :)

I've just moved house and got a garage again - I'd forgotten how good bikes smell when you open the garage door and get that loveley whiff of WD40 and 'engine stuff'

I REALLY need to ride my bike. Had a real good ride end of May, then trackday season started with a trackday every 2 weeks through June and an accident on track so just havent been out. It's only about 2 weeks then its Donington too :)

Hope the weathers good for Donny! Im at rockingham on the 1st but the weathers changing so much at the moment tempted to buy wets :/

Just moved from my Kwak ZX6R of 4.5 years to a Triumph 1050 Sprint ST.

I could never ride with a top box, I'd be worried if I dropped it that the bike would take me with it.

So tell me about Yamaha 2002/2003 Fazers...
Liking the thought of these over CBR600 and heard theyre solid, forgiving bikes for first time big big bike riders! Plus can go rapid if pushed and have a big tank for 200 miles potentially per tank?

Cheers!

yeah i get around 200 on a tank. I knew nothing about bikes and I am very happy with my fazer for my 1st bike. Certainly to me at least it has a lot of power. Easily loose your license in 2nd gear in seconds.

I like it, but then never ridden anything else.

Just got my seat the other day, waited nearly 4 months for it!! Added a John Mcguinness DB screen. Just got to wait for some slim ballast coming in stock next month for HID lights.
