Damn. I could be here all day :p

Monty Python's Flying Circus crew. esp Cleese/Chapman writing.

Ricky Gervais/Steve Merchant writing.

Peter Kay

Tommy Cooper, absolute legend, visit the Magic Circle ;)

Stephen Fry

Rik Mayall/Ade Edmonson for pure toilet humour

Thats a few for now...

Budding comedy writer myself, but will never be in their league.

Billy Connolly - if I had to be trapped on a desert island (hot chicks not included...) with somebody, it would be him.

Also, if you wanna see a cracking routine then have a search around Youtube for Chris Rocks "racism" performance - utterly brilliant. I won't directly link because I fear it would be removed by a mod :)

no one has said mr bean

also that guy form some mother do have em". Hes classic :D

did all his own stunts aswell, ever seen the one with the roller skates and the bus? lmao :D

Joe Orton. A genius of a playwright.

I was in panto with Les Dawson once. Good laugh he was. Roger De Courcey (and Nookie) were also in said panto. He wasn't such a laugh. Hated kids.

Performance: the late, infinitely more than great Bill Hicks, 1961–1994. RIP. Honourable mention to Bill Bailey—particularly his musical ability, which is incredible.

Writing: Graham Linehan, without a doubt. He's still got lots more left in him, too—I hope so, anyway. Deserves to be in everyone's favourites list for Father Ted alone. Honourable mention to Chris Morris, both as a writer, director, and performer. Brasseye and The Day Today are at the peak of British TV comedy, and nothing comes close to On The Hour on the radio.

So many people have made me laugh....but if you want a comedy hero, someone I think I could look up to, then that's a tough call. For the fact he continued doing what he loved when he knew he was going to die (and could make a joke out of it!), it would have to be Bill Hicks - he also didn't give a **** what people thought about him - and spawned a whole gaggle of copycat comedians (and ultimately inferior, in my opinion).

Dont think anyone has mentioned him yet but, Eddie Izzard, that bloke had me in stitches for years when i was younger.

and ofc the python team et al.
