Chick Murray
How could I forget him!

'My father was from Aberdeen, and a more generous man you couldn't wish to meet. I have a gold watch that belonged to him. He sold it to me on his deathbed. I wrote him a cheque for it, post dated of course'

chic murray.

i was walking down the street when i saw a guy sitting on the pavement.
"did you fall" i asked him?
he replied "no, i've got a bar of toffee in my back pocket that i'm trying to break"

classic.

John Cleese - without a doubt, one of the funniest men alive
Omid Djalili - his stand up just cracks me up every time, even though it's all a bit "samey"

Steve Coogan has been mentioned a couple of times and he is someone I don't find funny except when he is in the guise of Alan Partridge. That character makes me laugh.

Also, Bill Bailey has been mentioned and he is without doubt the funniest stand up I have seen live.

It's only for his older stuff yeah. The first series of I'm Alan Partridge is one of the greatest comedy series I have ever seen. Shame series two sucked.

I like some of Steve Coogans older stuff like Paul & Pauline Calf. Only because a lot of it was filmed where I used to go drinking.

Im not a big fan of stand up per se but Billy Connolly(Billy & Albert) & Eddie Murphy(Delerious) are pretty damn funny.

I like some of the old stuff like Laurel & Hardy. However I really do like slap stick comedy that is really stupid and off the wall like The Naked Gun, lazing Saddles, Hot Shots, Young Frankenstein kind of comedy. So for me my heroes of comedy are

Leslie Nielsen
Gene Wilder
Chevvy Chase
Dan Akyroyd
Marty Feldman
Mike Myers

Ronnie Barker
Laurel & Hardy
David Jason

I have recently been enjoying watching Open all hours and George & Mildred.

Older comedies are great

Buster Keaton

A thread of comedy heroes and we get to page 3 before Keaton gets a mention. That's shocking. :(

He devoted his life to being funny. In fact he frequently risked his life for the sake of laughter.

Can't youtube link as I'm at work but here's the Wikki entry.
